You're not being a cunt. It's not entertaining to watch someone spamming an attack. It's not entertaining to watch three successful flick-kick shots amongst various shots where the ball just rolls out. It's not entertaining to go watch people limp around a course by driving into the walls.

I think it is too hard to get a frame of reference for the skill involved in top level gaming in comparison to real life competition. You really have to be into that particular game or at least that genre.
I watch some of the videos in the fighting thread that others get excited about and I can't see those nuances that others can, the bits that separate good from world class. I'm sure those guys would be the same watching other games.
This isn't a problem on the internet where things can be really specialist but TV has to have a much broader appeal to be viable. -

A basic level of competence is required. You want people to have a general level of skill but with the distinct possibility of screw up to be possible at any time. That's why Snooker was more entertaining in the 80s as they were all half pissed at the time. My snooker comment was tongue in cheek but much of the tension of that game came from the uncertainty of Higgins, Reardon, Thorburn et al and their performances. I've still not had time to watch this but a lot of what I hear about it makes me think back to when Matt Lees was talking about the hassle he had trying to get a games show Greenlit on BBC3, and eventually after months of nonsense they came back to him and said he was "too close to 30" and that would put him out of touch with their audience. I find that interesting because there's such a dearth of games stuff on TV that the audience would come to it, and they'd probably appreciate someone in the middle who knew his shit.
