AHA this is pure fucking gold. This will do wonders for Chris Brown's image and no mistake.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • And a genuinely good R&B/rap song too, while simultaneously taking the piss out of and celebrating what makes good R&B/rap so good. That Spinal Tap touch.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • Now listening to:

Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell

    b69vVCG.jpg

I never really got Sufjan Stevens until hearing this album. Really beautiful, sad, and personal. Thanks to my brother for recommending it to me.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • It reminds me a lot of The Creek Drank The Cradle by Iron & Wine, with a lot of Elliott Smith too.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • Seven Swans and Age of Adz are also excellent, so is Illinois
  • Thanks! I will check them out.

"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • Every single year? g.man will hit the post limit...
  • Haha
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • "Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • "All these carets like I'm a fucking vegetarian" has to be one of the great, silly, hilarious rap lyrics ever.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • Yo bugs what was your take on the Kells docu on bbc3? Does it impact your enjoyment?
  • It is disappointing but expected. He's been known to have done these things for some time now. I still love his music, but I am distressed that someone whose work means so much to me is such a bad person.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • Don't believe that his music should be blacklisted though. In 50 to 100 years, it will be a sidenote of his legacy, just like Wagner. His influence permeates everything R&B made in the last 25-30 years.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • I honestly haven't come to a conclusion yet re. artist vs art. It was much easier when the music is shite, like Glitter or LP.
  • Hmmm, not really. You had to be there when Glitter was at his peak I guess.
I was about 8 when he hit big back in '73, and it cannot be understated what an absolute giant he was back then. The songs themselves (which weren't written by him) were absolute bangers, and they were hugely influential on an entire generation of rockers.
With the hindsight of adult eyes he always looked like a fucking buffoon, but he had the choons and then some...

I'm not defending him, he was a massive cunt and I hope he burns in hell, but to say that the music was shit is just plain wrong.
Still, goes without saying I'm unlikely to be found humming any of his hits in public nowadays.
Shame for the loss of the music. It was a huge part of my childhood, but yeah, fuck him.
Come with g if you want to live...
  • It's hard to come to terms with this stuff, but I do feel it's important to keep it clear where people had a massive influence on others. If we were to try to remove the influence of Michael Jackson for instance, we would have to discard most of the music recorded since the 1980s. It's just not feasible. We have to come to terms with the fact that bad people sometimes make great art.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • The fact that you can find and post that painting without fear of legal/social reprisals says everything I tried to.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • Great art is great art.

(Hitler was a shit artist though)
  • Liking someone's art doesn't mean you are against them going to prison for a long, long time. Roman Polanski should be sitting in a prison right now for goodness sake.
"Given how long it's taken for me to reconcile my nature, I can't figure I'd forgo it on your account."
  • Agreed. Though I'm not a fan of Polanski in general, Chinatown is misogynistic tosh as far as I'm concerned.

However, it diminishes many talented people's influence if we give him credit for the entirety of his films (not that you are).
  • Liking your input in this thread by the way, your albums of the years are half my favourites and half I've not heard or never given a fair listen to.
