but, you're talking about how you think GW don't have enough cute cultists so you have to go third party for them...

Fingers crossed I'll get my glaivewrath things tomorrow. They were scheduled for Monday, since then every day UPS has send me a "delivery change exception" for whatever reason. This morning they were finally in the delivery truck, only to get returned to depot because the GW store that they're going to was still closed. Sigh, I just want to be disappointed at how small they are and frustrated about how hard it will be to paint. (I'm actually really looking forward to it but they're gonna feel tiny compared to gunpla)

You star Nexx. Ordered. They had them in Meeples Corner on Tuesday but I missed out, and then Amazon have some but they look like the Italian language version so didn't risk it.

Mine arrived today, got to resist the urge to open it and remember that it's a gift for my niece and nephew.  I think it's going to be super hard to get hold of in a month or so.
  • Ours arrived too (was told it’d be on Monday, so that was nice). We opened to play tomorrow, it looks lovely.
  • Cool, let me know how you find it

Rattled though a bunch of Dreadball stuff this weekend, but I think I need to refresh my brushes. What are those Broken Toad ones like Tempy? Was just gonna order more Series 7 whifh have been great and lasted me ages but open to options.
  • I have been using them on some stuff I am paitning. They are absurdly high quality, probably too good for me. They're pricey for the set, £34? But I find the reservoirs are a lot fatter than the Series 7.

Which set is it and was it direct from them? How many brushes? Series 7 were about £9 each when I last bought them so may be comparable? I don't need anything too fancy, but decent quality as it makes a difference.
  • I got the Broken Toad Mk3 brush set which was £38 for 4 brushes, I can see the 1 and 0 brushes becoming my main brushes over time.

Seems the Series 7 are around £10 to £12 each now so that's a good price.
  • I've been using the Raphael 8404 brushes, which work slightly better for me over the Series 7. Both great brushes, but the 8404s have a fatter belly and seem to hold more paint so the tip doesn't dry out as much. I also quite like the Series 7 miniature paint brushes. They're not designed for miniature figures, but I like them for base coating as the shape means you can get more paint on without losing control of the shape of the bristles.

Something I've been guilty of in the past was using my best brushes for everything. I'm now only using my best brushes when I actually need them, and they last way longer (i.e. the initial pristine perfection stage of a really good new brush lasts longer). I think it was Darren Lathan that said in a video, and it was a light bulb moment.

I'm far, far from a good painter but I remember the first time I used a Series 7 after using cheap crap for years and it was a game changer.

My goal this year is to consistently paint through the year and try and improve, as opposed to short spurts with 6 month gaps of painting absolutely nothing as I've been doing for years and years.

I keep looking at the Stormbringers (?) I did from Shadespire aaaaages ago where I actually spent time and was really pleased with them, so i know I have it in me. But.....they're 32mm I think(?) so felt a tad more comfortable to get in and do the intricate bits and bobs to a nicer standard. I struggle to do the same with Dreadball minis which I'm assuming are 28mm.

15mm I'm sticking with contrast quickies. Fuck trying to detail them fuckers, my eyes are too old.

You and me both. I tend to paint during the winter, and stop during the summer.

    Some Dreadball bits.

Also just stuck some 1mm thin washers on all my Dreadball stuff for magnetic storage. That wasn't tedious at all.

Rattling through as fast as I can when I get a spare minute. Still got another 8 teams from my ebay bargain to do. Eek.

Ordered those Broken Toad brushes Tempy. My ancient Series 7 are causing me serious grief at this point. Bristles coming off and not retaining a point. Hope they arrive soon while I have a spare minute to paint.
  • Nice dreadball stuff Frantic! Don't envy the washer stuff, I need to magnetise my stuff as I got my really useful boxes sorted.

Finished a unit of Blissbarb Archers. GW have gone too far, these are so complicated to paint. Bastards.

Lovely. They do look a pain.

Looks like rain all weekend so no priming unless there's a break in the wetness. Although I guess I could so it in the garage if I promise Mrs Pea to be more careful than last time....

Finally painted all my Dreadball Xtreme obstacles. Pretty pleased with it tbh.

    hJZTV3e.jpg

Nearly made a silly mistake of painting the lids of the containers to match the container. They have icons on the underside to determine whether they explode or not, and with what force, so need to be uniform. Bullet dodged. Just left them all undetailed so there's no way of telling.

Need to give the board a good iron, mind.

    Loving those little blue gems
  • Bloody nora. Aced it tempy.
  • Great metallics Tempy. I think you made the right choice not to put pupils in the eyes. Even the GW studio painted one looks wonky to me with the pupils in.

Did you paint him with bare arse cheeks?
  • Shite, hang up your paintbrushes in SHAME.

I wish I could do that.

Cheers folks, he was fun to paint. Lovely model, but a lot smaller than you might expect.

I did indeed paint his bum on show, but he has a little cloth covering his crack, modest lad. Panty, no brush hanging, please.
  • How big is he? He looks like he might be about the size of the plastic daemon prince. Is he smaller than that?
  • He's about ahead taller than a Primaris (if the Primaris were stood on the terrain piece like he was. Maybe a head taller than a Stormcast too.

Absolutely amazing stuff Tempo. Thought I'd already said that but apparently not.

One problem I've just come across when trying to base some new 15mm that arrived today. Because I've barely used cash in the last 12 months due to Covid, I now don't have a single ferrous penny left anywhere in the house to use as a base. Not even the junk drawer produced any.

I did find Elliots ball pump that went missing months ago though, so there's that I guess.
