It’s also a company that builds catastrophe models and software for underwriters in big insurance companies.
So yes, thought about it. A lot of good stuff comes from the models in trying to help save lives from natural and man made disasters though, I guess. I think.
I don’t know I just do IT so my children can be happy.
My old place (a good old traditional insurer) did some work with RMS, seemed like v. smart people. Interesting company, pretty tech driven but also lots of proper nerdy experts, from what I saw.
Although I did find they could explain it all well. Maybe that's just the people they bring out to talk to the public.
I got offered a new job today. New industry, more money, expenses, less travel most days. I'm absolutely delighted. It's all very exciting and I'm normally quite nervous about this sort of thing, but after 11 years at the same place, I really can't wait to move on.
11 years?! That’s good going there. If you’re anything like me you’ll hate not knowing everything already at the new place, but don’t worry it only lasts a couple of months or so.
Contract came through today. Expecting to give my notice on Monday. It's 3 months, but I'm planning on telling my boss she sexually assaulted me, so I can be put on gardening leave while the investigation takes place.
So back when I was working in retail, it was pretty much unwritten that unless my legs were hanging off me, I'd be going into work. Colds/chest infections were nothing as long as I could sell sell sell!!!!
But see now I'm in a hospital, coming into contact with patients, most of them elderly, some in respiratory wards, depending. I'm fucked with what looks to be a chest infection. Lumps of catarrh coming up. Should I be in today? I honestly don't know, cos like I say, I'm used to getting on with it, but don't want to risk anyone getting more ill. Wat do, forum? Wat. Do.
I'm actually a few stops away on the bus. Just gonna go and be honest with them. I just don't want to be in a situation where they say like "well it's up to you Gavin whether you need to go home" as that implied guilt trip shite can just fuck off. Hoping for something a bit more b&w.
Gav don't go in. It's a hospital, it's full of sick people, you don't want to catch anything else, or spread anything you've got to your colleagues or patients.
If your manager is a cunt they'll try the guilt trip on you, just ignore it, because it's a cunty move.
"Let me tell you, when yung Rouj had his Senna and Mansell Scalextric, Frank was the goddamn Professor X of F1."
Before I left on Wednesday (had thu-mon booked off, rotas for the following week go up on the thursday) I asked to see this week's unpublished rota and saw I was 1030-1830 today. So I go in there and spot on the rota I'm actually off today, and they've put me in on Sunday morning, which is another day I've asked for off specifically and was told it was sound, and was there on the version I saw on Wednesday there.
So now I'm on the bus back home before any bosses saw me and now have to deal with that. Will phone later and say Chaz sent the rota to me and kick off.
Obvs low-key but really high key chuffed I can now go home and skelp Forza solidly, I'm just annoyed I now have more, slightly different fuckery to deal with.
For the record, my colleagues I saw there told me they won't give a fuck if I have a chest infection. Lol.
My sister works for a charity that cares for vulnerable people, and their policy is if you're coughing shit up you stay the fuck away from the people you might kill.
