Dark Souls
  • Finished.

I think Gwyn is the best fight in the game.  Tough but fair, unlike a number of other bosses.

But where is the ending?  Even Demon's has some sort of ending, this is minimalism too far.

Went on a rampage in NG+ taking out Taurus Demon, Havel, Hydra, and Sif.  Died once to the dragon which one-shotted me on the bridge.  Which I wasn't expecting as I though it only did small damage on it's first fly past.  Quite funny actually being over-powered for once.
  • To make a cheap divine weapon - downgrade the occult club (pretty sure there's one of them in effect in the Norfolk broads, but the one you're looking for is in Anor Londo, after you kill a mimic near Havel's armour), and you've got a plus 5 off the bat, which it could also be used as.

Nice one. If you're finding it easy going early, you'll be embarrassed towards the end. Crystal Soul Spear and such make mince meat of enemies. My new darkmoon build is coming along nicely. sl62 and counting.

    Sounds good!

Reading about such spells in the wiki pages were making me a little jealous when playing it previously, as satisfying as the hand to hand stuff is it would have been nice to do some serious ranged magic damage just to soften things up a bit.  Great game!
When you got movies like Tom Cruise in them, you can't lose
  • Yeah, I did my magic build after getting through NG+ with my first. I needed the break from tough. And while there's a couple of bits you have to think through, for the most part, it's just rinsing stuff. Homing soulmass is amaze. It is all about co-op help though. If you dress like a bad ass mage, dudes will summon you. For stuff like s and o, you can be so useful to people.
I'm still great and you still love it.

Erm I'm level 36, haven't found the second bell to ring yet. Don't know where to look tbh.  My stats are as follows: Vitality 17 Attunement 12 Endurance 17 Strength 19 Dexterity 19 Resistance 13 Intelligence 11 Faith 11
The BKS is a great weapon to get early on. Will get you quite far in. You clearly need 1 more point on STR so you can wield it 1 handed, so that's a priority.

Personally, I think about 20-25 VIT and 30+ END are important on a first run, but, yes, other than that you should concentrate on 1 other stat and aim towards about 40. Given the start you've made, STR (for specialising in big weapons) or DEX (for quicker weapons and bows) would be the best bet.
  • Another DkS vet joins the thread, 'sup Jon.
  • Hi. I've been away a couple of weeks. Also, I have new games and may not get back to this soon. I was doing an SL1 run before I left.
  • Maybe I'm not seeing this yet but, idk where the replay value is going to be in this game. You lot keep mentioning 'first run through' does that mean anything or will that be a big spoiler or something if you told me :p
  • I've got a lot of mielage out of different builds concentrating on different weapon and magic types. It can really change how you approach each area, the order you do things in, and tactics. There's also a hell of a lot of stuff you'll miss on a first run in terms of lore and stories. And there's a New Game+ for a stiffer challenge.

Plus there's the muliplayer aspect, although personally I've not used that.

yeah, there's a lot of stuff you just wont realise or try on a first playthrough. Even some of the NPCs you've met already do different things depending on order and who you kill. But mainly, the game plays very differently if you're focusing on different things. (And the best order to do the second half of the game changes as well, depending on what sort of a build you've made. Plus, yeah, NG+ for a stiffer challenge. + Co-op, +, if you feel like it, pvp silliness with different covies.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • I refuse to play this game at night now, after yesterday. Made me jump out of my skin at least 3 times.
'Ok I'll just cautiously go through this white li-OHFUCK A GIANT MINOTAUR, SHIT'
  • Thanks for the tips with the centipede, ran to the right and found the big area and murdered him. Also beat the 4 Kings with no trouble at all. Currently wearing a mish mash outfit, harvels armour, +6 bandit gloves, a lavish Crimson Skirt, +10 fire spider shield and a standard helmet (equip load between 25-50%). Weapons include +5 Quelags Furysword, Ricards Lightning Rapier and a +5 Silver Knights Sword (can you get this higher?)

Went through the Tomb of Giants and fuckkk. Skeleton dogs are hugely tough. Got to Nito and got soundly butchered by an onslaught of skeletons and a massive swipe. I think this is the last thing I've got to do. Called it a night for now.
  • Oh there's that knight in the watch tower I forgot about, might try him tomorrow.

Nice work. No, the silver knight sword maxes at +5. They're aprt of the unique weapons class, which can only go to +5. It is a great weapon though. Will do more than q' in the right circumstances, and scales reasonably well, from memory. (Worth remembering that with q's sword, it's a chaos weapon, meaning that the more humanity you have in the top left the more damage it does. max 10 humanity for a noticable effect I think.

Those skellie dogs are a prick. 1. They don't like fire. pyro? 2. I'd go for a shield with more stability. If you can wield a heavy shield, good, if not, either the balder shield or the eagle shield. They'll literally make a difference to the amount those big swipes take off your stamina bar. (You can also pretty much just run past everything on the way to nito.)

Do you have a divine weapon?

(Also, at the start of nito, listening to the screams to time dodges is important.)

You may be right about vit and end on a first playthrough, though I reckon if you can tough it out a little the extra damage and stats with lower overall soul level is worth it. Also means you're more likely to be able to co-op easily in the right spots if you're a good level.

Also, did dark souls stats lie to me? I though he could already one hand the bks.

I'm still great and you still love it.
  • dsstats didn't lie to me. I just can't read. 20 str req to wield the bks one handed.

Cleaned out Painted world last night. Got everything bar doing the boss lady. Will save her for later. With faith at 30 and son of firstborn ring, those blobs are an insta one hit on all of them. With silver serpent ring too it's some quick souls, I can tell you.

As long as the big sentinels drop a couple of chunks for me, I should be able to +5 lightning the washing pole straight away. What a fucking boss looking sword. It's just a katana, but it's so freakin big! The big question today is, can I do the archers first time?

  • Let's suppose you want to examine a three-dimensional map of the entire Lordran construct - whatcha gon do?

    Well hows about this.
  • With regard to stats, I used weapons that didn't scale so I put all my points into Vitality and Endurance (for hitpoints and stamina - focussing on stamina in the early levels).  I just put enough in Dex to use the shortbow and maybe a few in Strength for something or other.

Saved me having to worry about following a specific build.
  • Okay so I'm only SL 33 and I managed to hit for over 1000 damage this morning. Holy shit.
  • I've extracted that, B, but the excecuteable file isn't doing much...any ideas?
  • Please tell me there's a bonfire after Pinwheel and before the Tomb of the Giants D:
  • Load the map files.

Also, please talk me through how!

I'm on track to the most I've ever done once I can wield the mighty "Grant".

  • tbh it felt like a bit of a fluke. I was using an enchanted utchi +2, hornet ring and bellowing dragon crest. I think my Int and dex are both around 20.

It was only against a hollow soldier but it was awesome.
  • Oh and it was a riposte.
  • Ah ok for a backstab/riposte. I'm looking for 1000+ on a raw R2.

Edit: still awesome for that SL
  • Working through the Dukes Archives at the moment - I assume that your supposed to die when you first meet Seath Rogen?
    Gamertag: gremill
  • Yep.
I'm still great and you still love it.
  • @Grem.  Also, don't go back to the location as you'll just die again.  I died a few times until Face told me I was supposed to fight him properly elsewhere.
