The problem with the docking computer is that it takes up valuable space which could be allocated to something far more important. The computer also gets in the landing queue so could take a lot longer than the traditional method of barging straight in. Also, unlike the original, you don't have to be lined up just right to get in, most ships will fit in sideways too.
