AIBU for being annoyed at housemates cooking past 10pm? My bedroom is downstairs and right next to the kitchen, my housemates have a tendency to get home late and start frying shit up. I think it's cultural, to a degree (one Spanish, who eat late).
I’d be getting into the habit of wandering into the kitchen when they’re doing it and asking for a share. Can’t beat a free supper.
I do see why it’s annoying. Not sure there’s anything you can really do about it though, unless you’re up for talking about it with them. It won’t have occurred to them that it might be bothersome behaviour.
@Nick It's certainly worth mentioning it as they might well be accommodating if they realise it's annoying you.
Otherwise, are they tenants rather than housemates? If so, it might not be good form to 'pull rank' but if they continue doing it after you talk to them then it's an option. Depends if it might sour the atmosphere.
I'll mention it if it keeps happening; I do think it's a cultural difference as I know in the Med they tend to eat later. I just figured it was a goes-without-saying thing, like not running the washing machine at night etc.
My bedroom (downstairs) is way bigger and nicer than the upstairs ones so I don't want to swap.
You should run the washing machine at night, it's cheaper.
yeah I was thinking this
He could've just said they came from another planet but seems keen to convince people with his bullshit pseudoscience that he knows stuff. I wouldn't trust him with my lunch. - SG
I don't think I could ever complain about the smell of food, especially if I was taking money from them, but if it's really really annoying you then you could have the politest of words, but then again it might sound mad. Could you not eat after 10 plz? Can you not cook certain foods plz?
