All this sickness getting in the way of gigs is depressing, feelsbad for you both. My wife couldn't go to Sturg with me on Tues 'cos her mum way too ill to babysit, and my mate's gf missed it thanks to a bug too. We had two tickets to sell on the night, no luck. Decided to take the hit rather than sell to the touts.
I'm on a downer because my wife's sister has chucked her husband after 9 years. Been out for a few beers and curry with him tonight and he a shattered man. Sad stuff, each to their own but she won't be able to replace him with anyone with such high decency stats. Was punching like a Foreman haymaker but he's the nicest guy in the world.
So I'm going to hammer myself down even further with some tunes.
Lat one is a kinda (whisper it) shit version of an absolute classic Guy Clark song, but it's got Waylon as a wino so in it goes.
Fucking hell, that's a heavy evening. Be the drinking buddy you'd want yourself in that situation. If I knew the guy I'd be there right now slamming them like the best. Country music has a tune for every occasion.
My ex-wife's brother in law was there for me when all the shit went down. The first night he dragged me out for a drink we ended up back in the kitchen where he went into her wine rack, pulled out her most expensive bottle, and drank it with aplomb.
I tried to get my soon-to-be ex brother in law to change his Netflix password. He wasn't having it.
Obviously it might've been a bit awkward if he'd gone in two-footed on her during the conversations, but being extra nice and understanding about everything was probably worse. I also feel bad because I've known it was on the cards for ages, and it's supposed to be a post-Christmas revelation. She asked me for advice maybe three years ago and I said something like 'you're obviously not going to change your mind so respect him enough to do it now instead of later'. I stand by that advice, but I still feelsbad for knowing.
Mighty fine version of that too Muggins. Never in doubt with that line-up. I lost track of OCMS's new releases ages ago, shame. Might be time to see what I've missed. Loved their version of Down Home Girl. I remember buying Big Iron World and my first couple of Felice Brothers albums on the same day. What a day.
Feeling the pull of another TFB deep dive (not that they're related to OCMS in any way, I've joined the dots myself based on a day I bought some cds). If I had to answer the question 'who makes the most beautiful music ever' within 30 seconds right now I'd definitely answer 'why, The Felice Brothers of course!'.
I'm gonna need some time with that. Big sound and good verses but my initial reaction is 'ehhh' for the actual chorus. Day one for the album as ever though.
If we were insects and germs were a joke We'd eat shit off the sidewalk 'til we choke And buzz around the Scotch eggs and the flans, With feelers on our heads and tiny hands.
That's John Prine cancelling his shows, sounds like a hip problem and he's off back to the states. Gutted. No 'postponed' either, flat out cancelled and refunds going out. Hope he's alright ofc, just gutted as I haven't seen him before.
