I find my Twitter doomscroll-y right now. Lots of chatter about vaccination rates vs actual immunisations (2 doses pls), new variants, please stay at home, my <family member> passed away...

And then there's the politics and all the twatfaces that respond to everything. Good news is few and far between in my echo chamber.

Meetings this week... I counted 13. And I requested that no more are put in my diary at the start of the week cos me and my team have a huge piece of work that needs completed. Unfortunately not had enough time on that work cos the meetings, and then the emails that won't wait...

Of course, I am supposed to be doing that work right now...

I wonder if there’s a pithy name for the desperate refresh of a page just in the hope there’s an update. It’s the near cousin to the cycle of going through - say - Twitter, Facebook, Forum(s), Twitter... - which will inevitably have updates by the completion of the cycle.

In a department specific, but company wide, Zoom meeting of about 30+ people just before Xmas. One attendee sent an email to the person sharing his screen talking about another attendee who was speaking at the time.
The email subject said “I can’t fucking stand x” x being the person who was talking.
Whoops.

- accidentally buying an extra large Twix which I decided I read too hungry for, so innocently asking my secretary if she'd like a finger
- mispronouncing two words in French when auditing Eurotunnel, and inadvertantly asking about anal sex

This was intentional, but still tickles me. Induction at a call centre about 15 years ago, was the stand up and introduce yourself thing, one of the questions from the other inductees was "celebrity crush" I answered Drew Barrymore, then after a pause added "so hot in ET"

I did something similar years back. I was 19 and on day one of a 5 month long PT instructor training course. It was the stand up and introduce yourself bit which includes why you want to be a PT.

Lots of the group stood up and gave the usual answers "I want to help people" or "I want to do something I'm passionate about"

I stood up and said "I want to be a PT so I can make money and meet lots of women"

In one of our weekly zoom meetings I waited until the MD jumped up to get something in another room, quickly took a screengrab of his room then set it as my zoom background, then waited for him to notice.
It took a little less than 5 mins and the double take when he did was priceless. Thank Christ he laughed.

One of our guys set up a Zoom background video of himself bringing a bottle of water into the room and putting it on the desk. So that during a call he could say ‘Hold on, I’m going to get some water’ and have it delivered by himself. Outstanding effort.

I've had many a similar conversation. Obviously not in the creative field, but similar.

Client: "we need x and y, by next Friday"

My boss: "we can definitely do that, plus we can throw in z as well"

Me after my boss tells me what he's done: "we can do x easily. We cant do y at all and I don't even know what the fuck z is"

like i couldn't be arsed saying why dont you take all 3thousand frames at 1080 you can have them before monday then run em through fusion for 4k upscale before you deliver wednesday like

just doing whatever they want/will pay cos we're just here to deliver production ready gear not appraise their pipeline and want something from 3 days of fucking about and losing a weekend to people who mislead their clients, and us their supplier

like who even goes oh yeah we'll do this architecture and interiors in c4d- oh people who aren't paying for the correct skill set- I imagine they've lost whoever was working properly in max who sent us whatever the fuck it was we quoted for last year -

C4d can do the job but it is unusual. Switching from Max to C4d mid project screams of switching contractor though. Probably because they pissed about the first one.
