Haha.  Maybe the nurses were glad to see you go?

    Dare you, sir.
Not only had to fend their marriage proposals, but in my last hour managed to calm a distressed patient who wandered into my room thinking I was her ‘Ron’ and wouldn’t leave without me. Took the initiative and slowly escorted her back to her chamber, surrounded by the admiring nursing team. Hope renaming the ward was just chatter, because they are the true heroes.

  • Ah, the humble ward white knighting. Know it well. Very effective tactic.

Slipped her my number in case Ron doesn’t pull through.

  • @Dante: got that Anbesol.  It's good, but only helps numb the local gum area.  Not helping with the deeper pain in the roots and jaw and head...

@G: holy fuck that's some powerful shit!  Fucking codiene, eh?  Within 10 minutes (maybe sooner) of taking Solpadeine Max, I am feeling little pain.  What a relief.  Hope I don't get addicted.

Pain relief is one thing, what's causing the pain though...  I am wondering whether the treatment didn't go so well and the orthodontist (?) messed it up.  This is sooooooo bad and worse than last 2 visits (after which I hardly had much pain).  If this pain lasts another couple of days, I'll have to call them up.

  • It may be infected and require antibiotics to treat it. It's not uncommon with invasive dental procedures.

  • I’m at the NHS Louisa Jordan. Glasgow’s emergency Covid hospital. Turns out this hasn’t been needed for Covid patients after all and is instead taking on routine outpatients (with a vaccination centre next-door).

So this is what a hospital looks like now.

The sound of the air-conditioning is all-pervasive. It’s almost ‘I might need ear defenders’ loud.

It’s a bit dystopian in all. Temporary healthcare in a giant shed.

BUT. It’s fucking incredible too. This was built fast when we thought we might need it, and it’s standing up well.
  • Everyone is different obviously Elf, but I've had a lot of root canal work done over the years, and in my experience it's very rare to be in any pain days later. That being said, I do have one tooth that likes to flare up if the dentist is working in it's vicinity, and that one can take days to settle down again, with copious amounts of pain relief being used, so it can happen. But yes, we wary that it's maybe become infected and will require antibiotics.

  • Thanks G, will bear in mind.  If pain is still there tomorrow morning, may have to try emergency appointment at my local dentist.

  • Aye, with dental things like this, I've very much learnt it's better to be safe than sorry.

Looks like something i would build in Theme Hospital
  • I'm still struggling with eating. It's doing my head in. I go out and exercise, feel great. I eat, feel like shit. Breathing shit, lump in throat, sometimes hard to swallow for a bit afterwards. I'm following this low acid diet and my throat is less sore and voice less hoarse which good but still all these other things. Doctors don't seem that interested in helping me.

The Nightingale near us has similarly never been used for Covid but is being used for out-patient investigations and the like.

For a similarly dystopian picture of healthcare, here's our vaccination site:

It certainly continues the "healthcare in a giant shed" theme.

Have you had an endoscopy yet?  If not, stress you're struggling to swallow stuff and ask them for one.
  • I have not. Thanks. I've just contacted GP via 'econsult' - lets see how that goes. I hate talking to the receptionists anyway.

  • Called 111.  Off to get antibiotics in a bit.  Can't wait for this pain to stop.

  • Elf, you've inspired me to try and get in touch with my dentist about a molar I've got which fractured a few times, looking more and more like an incisor every time, and keeps on needing to be filled in due to the root canal filling bit falling out.

I was on hold for 20 minutes.  I've given up.

    Stupid tooth.

Wow they called back within an hour and putting me on urgent endoscopy waiting list. Thanks for the push. One of the other doctors from the same surgery previously told me to stop lansoprazole because it might be anxiety. Which... i definitely am anxious about my health.. so i kind of understand that and i try to work on the anxiety as well as the physical but i think its clear now its not just anxiety.

I'm glad that they acted so quickly.  To be fair on your doctor, it can be anxiety related.  (I once had a cancer scare a while back, and developed a swallowing issue that lasted right up until they gave me the all clear...)  That said, even if it is anxiety related, sometimes you need to know that everything else has been ruled out in order to get past it - so either way round the endoscopy sounds like a good call.

With any luck you'll get an answer, and better still a solution, soon.  Hope it all goes well.
  • Most probably said this before but I had a root canal which cost me £460. The reception said I had to pay half after my first treatment, " that'll be £230" she said without a hint of irony.
  • Can i just say my broken hand is still swollen. Cannot make a fist at all and the bruising is gone from the hand and us now in my wrist.

Never had pain like it tbf. My son twated my hand yesterday and I nearly died. Fuck me it hurt

  • Back in hospital for my first venesection since October - hopefully they can get a full pint of blood out of me and my iron levels haven't sky-rocketed since then. Not looking forward to the heavy gauge needle in my wrist.

Venesection sounds like a Bad Word
  • I did say a bad word when the nurse had to move the needle around inside my wrist.

  • Was the word "CUNT!"
