I was disappointed at first to see no new chapter, but I'm really enjoying the survival mode. There's a nice sense of building damage and chaos with the perks, and having a set weekly seed scratches the high score / progress itch.
Yeah the survival mode is surprisingly meaty.
Almost roguelike in that your power ups and the enemies you face are randomised.
The unlockable moves are a neat addition too.
Likewise only tried Shiva. Am I right in saying his star move doesn't work is my RB button broken?
Loving the survival mode. It's more interesting than the boss rush. Shiva is excellent, feels like a souped up Adam. Max is good fun and I like his little hop before the power slide. Estel I haven't really had much time with but I like her takedown ground and Lound move.
Overall, I love this game and at this point I can say I rate it as the best of the sor games.
Anyone else on the weekly survival challenge then? Ends at midnight I think, off to the pub shortly so I may not get another a proper solid run in, level 22 my best atm.
Best overall is level 20 but I think that was a random not the weekly. Things really do start to get insane from 20 so fair play Nick on getting to 22.
It is making me better at the game though.
I've tried a few characters bit Shiva is a beast so keep going back to him.
I cant get on with Max at all.
I like how the upgrades are tweaked to work with the characters, so Shiva gets a random upgrade rather than the gold weapons because he can't pick up weapons. I tried SOR1 Adam and he gets jump kick upgrades instead of the dash attack ones because he has no dash attack.
The big problem with this game is that the survival mode mods and buffs really add to the gameplay - so much that going back to regular arcade mode seems like a big step back.
Would love to see an arcade mode where its super difficulty but you can upgrade your character as it goes. Being able to double jump off shivas final crash while spitting electricity and fire is just too much fun.
Had a couple of goes, reached level 13. Who knew a VR style era hopping arcade scrolling beat 'em up roguelike would work? All of a sudden Nine Monkeys of Shaolin isn't quite as appealing.
Okay so the fixed weekly challenges will probably be my go-to for this, great fun. Managed to get to level 20 with Axel but got destroyed by the double Floyd combo.
It was already one of the best sequels of all time but the survival mode is super legit. It's the best SOR by a mile now.
Has anyone tried the free training mode on this? It's great, you can set up spawns of enemies with different health. It's like a danger room from x men. Think that's new with the dlc. Really good training modes there as well for learning combos
