What can you say still, the shooting in the supermarket wasn't that long ago, then there was the church here in Orange County, and I've seen one or two other news articles that were only minor shootings in the last two weeks I think. Kow is right, the US is quite fucked in a scary way. It often feels like don't argue with stupid, only stupid also has access to guns.

And not really related, but I've been seeing articles for weeks now that California is gonna need to start a state wide water preservation thing. As it's just too hot and too dry. Never imagined that was a thing, but here we are. At least some of the Las Vegas lakes are getting so dry that the corpses get discovered, most likely mob related.

And I slowly see the GoFundMe's popping up for funeral costs etc. I've seen people next to the road with signs up asking for money to be able to pay for a funeral, or in other cases cancer treatment. Absolutely awful to think that it's a possibility that some of the families of today's victims might have to go into debt just because of a mad man.

I'm not saying this is the case, and the GoFundMe's might be legit and help them, but days like today suddenly make me remember the things we've seen that you just don't expect to see in a country that thinks they're an example to the rest of the world, and that still attracts immigrants because they genuinely think the American dream can be a reality. (And again, this can be true for some, and it will be a better place with more opportunities for plenty of them. It's hard to describe America after living here for 5 years, it feels impossible to understand.)

Ain't upper middle class white assholes keeping african slaves (these days, anyway) or child trafficking in general. Same goes for women and girls being trafficked into sexual slavery - although in this case their customers absolutely can be white and middle / upper middle class.

Modern slavery is still very much a thing, we just don't hear about it in our comfortable little lives.
