He was a Tory councillor since 2013. He knew what he was signing up for. A by-election can't be forced from a defection (I think). So the next chance Bury South (a Tory-Labour marginal) gets to vote it will be between an actual Tory and someone who was very recently a Tory and now stands for god knows what. I just don't think the good PR is worth it for the sake of having an out and out Tory in that constituency going forward. He sat there voting with them on all sorts and only jumped when his prospects of re-election started looking unlikely.LivDiv wrote:He was a new backbencher. That is how our system works. It was reported in The Times on 5 November 2021 that Wakeford approached Owen Paterson and called him "a cunt", after the Government, under the instruction of prime minister Boris Johnson, instructed its MPs to vote to change rules on the way MPs' conduct is policed.
