I can't decide whether the top 10, is games that were notable for their memorable content/pushed the genre forward, or those that I'd like to play again. So have produced two short unordered list.

First those that were notable (I may be wrong when it comes to whether they were the first):

Asteroids - Vector graphics and vector graphics monitor. The idea of not using a raster display is interesting and resulted in games that were crisp/sharp compared to raster graphics of the time.

Populous - First god game - new genre

Elite [BBC] - Standout graphics, large open world

Tomb Raider - Never played it, but to me it appears to be the precursor to Uncharted/TLOU cimenatic games.

Portal - Puzzler crossed with FPS

Pong - first main stream game(?)

Dune 2 - Not played it - but expect this was the kicked-off the RTS genre

Pac Man - I have a feeling the ghost movement/AI was radical at the time. Also according to Wikipedia was the first game with Power-Ups

Wii Sports - Motion controls - precursor to the VR controls now coming to the mainstream

Dragons Quest - First game that prioritised Graphics over game-play and was rubbish for it (notable - although maybe not in a good way).

Games I'd happily play again (which includes games that would only be playable again if more people were playing on-line, I got burnt with the Vietnam update to Battlefield Bad Company 2 and sometimes found I was the only person in a game when I purchased it at the time):
