I thought he was trying to claim expenses to the office because normally he wouldn't be traveling then. But that home work schedule was deemed irrelevant?
Uhhhh I'd say that's illegal? Or at least challengable. I can't claim the miles I would normally take to get to office but after that I can. E.g. If lived 5 Miles away, I'd subtract that from the 50 Miles travelled and claim 45.
I'm falling apart to songs about hips and hearts...
Iirc HMRC say mileage claims have to be from the primary workplace, which will be in your contract I assume.
WFH obviously is a bit of a curveball leaving a grey area. I guess it's down to businesses how far they want to bend the rules.
I can claim expenses when travelling to places other than primary workplace, directly from my home. This has always been the case in every business I’ve worked for.
I cannot see any justification, business or financial, to force people to go to the office first then go to offsite meeting, and do not believe HMRC have any such restrictions in place.
Think you should challenge this pop if it’s a decent whack of cash, you’re clearly travelling for work to a place which is not your normal workplace. I’m not sure how wfh systems would impact this in any way
I’ve got my annual review next week. I’m going to ask the MD how this squares with her claiming mileage for driving to meetings from her home in Oban, a two-and-a-half-hour run away, because I know full well the she does it.
I was going to say its not necessarily the law because other companies do it, its what a business is comfortable explaining and justifying if investigated. But....
It does seem like you can have 2 permanent working places though but I would imagine that needs to be in written somewhere.
I’m essentially going with N0face’s suggestion. I simply won’t drive from home to a meeting again. I’ll swap my days around and be working in town on days they book me in to travel anywhere.
Just had a nearly two hour call with a 91yo just retired Dr giving me his life and work history in intimate detail as he was too old to write it all down.
Best call in a job I've ever had. Good way to end the day.
My penultimate day as a Microsofty. Joined the company that got bought out in 2005, so it's gonna be a change. Leaving drinks this evening, where I firmly intend to get battered. I've cunningly only told colleagues I'm reasonably friendly with, so going for good craic, and a written off last day in the office...
And then a week and a half of genuine nothing! No work stress! Kids at school! Can just play computer games for hour after hour! Have not had that for a decade and a half, bring the fuck on.
Well earnt ace, happy for you. Don't Leave a turd on the office cunts desk, trust me that leads only to regret. They can still press charges and anyway it's the cleaners who really pay the price
