You mean it's easy to give up smoking as long as you smoke while you're doing it?

hahaha, pretty much, also by not calling it giving up, thinking of it as just forgetting to smoke

Day 8 no ciggies, have to go to the shop for supper, really want to buy a pack, I won't, I just figure telling myself not to publicly will increase my self-rebuke and therefore discourage me

Also all my previous posts said "x number of ciggies in last y days", I was cheating by counting that way, this time I'm resetting the clock each time, no workarounds

  • Well done cockbeard. As someone who stopped and started about a million times I know how fucking hard it is. Eventually got it kicked about 4 years ago now and have promised myself to never go back.
  • I was doing some instore branding stuff for nicotine products earlier.
It was Blu vape, Rizla filters and a brand that isnt out yet but they make nicotine pouches.

I hadn't seen these before but they seem pretty grim. They look like those silica gel pouches you get in new trainers. The idea is you put them in the corner of your mouth under your tongue and they release nicotine. I guess they are a replacement for chewing tobacco.
  • @cocko
Keep it up man. Best of luck.

Can I interest you in nicotine pouches?
  • Stay strong Cock man, proud of you.

I'm a vape man these days (I don't think nicotine itself is actually bad for you?) but still wobble when in the pub and bum a tab off a mate. I always feel dirty afterwards and don't really enjoy it. My goal is to get down to zero nicotine vape, but like I said, I don't think the nicotine is actually that damaging, it's the tar and carbon monoxide etc. Can any more educated badger elaborate?

All of the evidence that we have so far is that nicotine isn’t harmful in and of itself, however, there isn’t a massive amount of evidence for this because the ability to have nicotine without all of the other definitely-harmful shit is pretty recent.

Snus, snuff in a tiny teabag??

Used to use it in Finland, very popular in Scandinavia, far less obnoxious than vaping, but I figure cold turkey is better. Cheers for the yays though guys, I didn't buy any at shop, just fish fingers, bread and stuff

  • The main concern with vaping I have seen is popcorn lung. Advice seems to be to avoid vape juice that contains diacetyl.

Thats banned in the UK anyway.
  • Ah ok, fair enough then.
  • I’ve been vaping for a few years but gave it up recently as the nicotine addiction is still a pain in the arse. The two problems now are joints and the pub. I tried bongs but felt like I was a thirteen year old at a house party. Also they’re just not very satisfying. And the pub is the pub and if I drink I need the option to smoke.
The solution for now is something called Greengo. Some fairy rank herbal tobacco made from Eucalyptus, mint and some other crap. No nicotine though. And it smokes pretty well. And as it’s rank you don’t smoke it for the flavour. I assume it’s pretty bad for you. It doesn’t tell you if it’s got tar or not but I assume it has and you’re probably just as prone to some of the smoking illnesses. Not moreish though, so might help phase it all out completely over the long run.
  • I stopped and started for years, thanks to working retail so long (and working in cafes when you could still smoke inside).

I never smoked at home though, even when me and my wife moved in together. I tried so hard to give up the morning and afternoon at work but those two just wouldn’t budge.

One morning I read a story about a smoker who coughed up the usual phlegm, only to then get something massive and gooey stuck in her throat, and she eventually coughed up her own tumour.

I felt so ill I couldn’t smoke all week, and haven’t since. If this story helped, I’m sorry and you’re welcome.

Monkey, gave up smoking but not the puff. I and a few badgers 'toast' theirs with a DYNAVAP vessel. No batteries, discreet, reliable and portable. Best bit is the spent herb makes easy edibles.

clove tobacco like they use in films perhaps??

When I used to smoke weed I'd often just use a small dry pipe to avoid tobacco, might be worth looking at as an alternative. Especially as that way you're not reinforcing the physical pathways involved in the smaoking "activity", which kinda normalises "smaoking" and reminds you of it, prompting nostalgia and likely cravings

edit: no idea why I'm spelling smoking like that, also it seems technoloby has overtaken me in the last 25 years

I'm not sure how true that statement is.

    CONCLUSION

Nicotine is the fundamental cause of addiction among tobacco users. Nicotine adversely affects many organs as shown in human and animal studies. Its biological effects are widespread and extend to all systems of the body including cardiovascular, respiratory, renal and reproductive systems. Nicotine has also been found to be carcinogenic in several studies. It promotes tumorigenesis by affecting cell proliferation, angiogenesis and apoptotic pathways. It causes resistance to the chemotherapeutic agents. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is an effective adjunct in management of withdrawal symptoms and improves the success of cessation programs. Any substantive beneficial effect of nicotine on human body is yet to be proven. Nicotine should be used only under supervision of trained cessation personnel therefore its sale needs to be strictly regulated. Needless to say, that research for safer alternative to nicotine must be taken on priority.

Thinking about that, I was always under the impression that pure nicotine in liquid form was a super deadly poison, Nini O'Shea would always walk around youth club berating smokers with that fact

Nicotine is pretty poisonous, but everything is poisonous, all that matters is the dose.*

    Spoiler:
  • Bought a pack of 20 while I was in the pub, gave maybe 8 away to other drinkers but I'm lumbered with a few at home and I can't help it.

I’ve tried a pax ploom a few years ago which is similar I think. Didn’t really get on with it. That thing might be worth a try though.

Never take them home. I always leave them or give them away at the end of the night. The temptation the next day is too much otherwise.
