Not sure tbh, I pre-ordered on 16/07/2021 (daughters birthday), that was the first chance so guessing i am in first round.
Yeah the fan noise is the big question. Had a GPD win (and GPD win 2), the fan noise was hugely variable
You can check my clicking the Steam Deck Featured link in the store, it will state what your release window is. I'm Q2 even though I ordered on the first day, took ages to get through checkout.
Audio can be so subjective and dependent on the local noise in your environement that it's going to be tough to get a good idea of how good it really is until there's a good number of reports out there. For example if you live in a quiet rural area and don't have things like air conditioning etc running all the time, then the perceived noise is more likely to reach your intolerance level.
Without having a bunch of additional details about the games tested, noise floor, etc you can't read too much into these kinds of reports tbh.
This will be after Feb. The Feb release date was originally intended for December, so guessing we’ll be pushed back a bit. Happy with Q2 gives time for full reviews and patches etc.
AFAICT from the Switch, it seems to be less about playing when you’re out and about and more about being able to play at home without needing to take over the TV.
Steam following the Switch trend. Meaning it's going to be HUUUGGE! It signifies a shift in the perception of pc gaming.
1. PC gaming isn't just about hi end gaming on ultra settings. Low/ mid settings are going to get some serious optimisation tlc.
2. PC gaming shifting to OS independent thanks to stuff like Proton/wine
3. SteamOS paradoxically becoming a thing
4. The year of the Linux desktop is almost upon us (lol)
