Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
  • I think the consensus was to hang back a bit on this for a price drop. Beta was a bit meh for many. It's a £20-25 for me I think unless I hear amazing reports back about mp.

  • Fair enough I'm waiting on the postman, will post impressions, I quite liked the beta so if they've ironed out some of the glitches I can see myself giving this a go for awhile.
  • I grabbed this due to wanting rid of Max Payne. Very casual so far, it holds your hand and leads you through the levels, not at all tactical. Despite that, it's quite fun. I'm actually finding the spectacle quite impressive, although there's nothing new here at all. The cut scenes are hilariously bad, I suspect they've been outsourced - they look worse than the game and the voice acting is horrendous, even though the same actors in game sound fine.
  • The campaign is hilarious.
  • That should be a box quote.

  • I'm enjoying the campaign a lot, it's probably closer to a Splinter Cell/COD/Gears hybrid than Ghost Recon and the story and cut scenes are so bad that I suspect they might have seriously considered not including them. The game engine and transitions look great though, incredibly cinematic. The marking and multi-kill mechanic is good fun and the fire fights are suitably chaotic, the pleasure is more in killing the enemy with a bit of style rather than just getting through.

Tried a bit of the on-line last night. The multi-player seems pretty much the same as the beta, I'm not sure how much it's lag and how much it's just players being a bit quicker than me, but I died a lot. Not particularly fun and it does look quite poor compared to the campaign. I was being optimistic and assuming that the guns I was unlocking in the campaign would unlock in multi-player. Sadly not and you do feel at a huge disadvantage. Terrible lack of faith in their multi-player that they think people will only play because they need to grind.

The horde mode seemed much more promising. A bit better looking and reasonably tight game play, it seems to add enough value to make the game a keeper after the campaign is over.
  • Cool. I'll pick it up cheap in a month for some co-op goodness then.

Only played a couple of missions but think co-op would be great , it would be interesting when you mark your own enemy and take them out simultaneously , with the consequences of getting it wrong .

As Ian says , it's a Splinter cell , cod , gears hybrid . How was flashpoint red river on co-op ?

That was when me, g, and I think Unlikely and someone else played Flashpoint co-op. A helicopter fell on us.

  • I gave in and got this today. Traded my complete Stargate collection for 66 quid at CEX and picked both this and Max Payne 3 up. Good stuff, looking forward to playing it properly.

  • Also, Red River, whilst not great, was improved 100% in co-op. Shared experiences can paper over many a crack.

  • Just came across a game breaking bug . On the Noble Tempest level  where you go thru a dilapidated building one of the soldiers just crawls along a wall and every time you restart the level from your checkpoint the prick keeps doing it . Don't know if it's worth restarting the level !

  • I've just had the AI freeze up on me too. Luckily I was at the start of the level, because going back to the checkpoint didn't help. It would be a nightmare, some of the levels are very long.
  • I am really enjoying the stealth aspect to the single player in this. Even when I don't have to, I'm taking it slow and stealthily killing as many people as possible.

I also had an AI guy stuck in a sync-shot despite the fact he had already killed the guy. I shot the dead body which seemed to do the trick.
