Overwatch 2 is in Beta and apparently they’ve changed all sorts!
  • I'd love to play Widow more, but I always feel like I'm being a detriment to the team, as I'm fairly useless with her at the moment.

    But those 300 damage headshots...

S'all good in quick play, and those headshots are bloody beautiful!

Try some headshot practice in custom game, Chopper. Load up a level, select skirmish, set all of the opposition to Ana, and turn headshots only on. Ana can't headshot you and she moves more like a real person than any of the other AI characters. I don't do it as often as I should, but when I do it's usually with McCree.
  • You on tonight, @Nexx? Played a cheeky couple with Harry earlier.
  • Okay, I had a comp game earlier that was exactly the kinda game Tiger's mentioned. Crazy line-up and next to no teamwork. Thankfully it was the only bad game of the eight I played, the rest were great fun and I'm still buzzing from the final win on Dorado.

Ended up loosing one more than I won overall and dropped 30 rank but got some lovely comp points towards something shiny so s'all good.

I think I'm properly off quick play though. Played a bit earlier and despite being in a group with a bunch of lovely folk I just couldn't find much enjoyment in the gameplay. I'd rather play mystery heroes. Or even no limits. Srsly.
  • Mixed bag yesterday. I'm still 400 down on my season high... On for a session soon though. Excite!

  • Sorry Tiger, in Paris for a few nights!...
  • Have fun! We made a new friend who was good with Ana but he turned out to be quite irritating... Sending people messages saying he wouldn't heal them...

Had huge issues with lag today and yesterday. Bit fed up with it actually. Only when I'm playing with Harry, strangely.
  • Come back. I need carrying! Fucking wretched run of form, still.

Going to play Smite instead. Or only play Bastion/Dps.
  • You have a PS4 don't you?
  • I tried to get Tiger to get it on PS4 back in the early days, it's gotta be a decent price pre-owned right now ;)

Played a bit more comp with Tred and the gang last night. Quality games all round and we won more than we lost, woulda won one more but for a silly tactical mistake but hey, that's how it goes.
  • Been watching my son play this as he got it for xmas - it looks pretty good, so I might give it a go.
    Gamertag: gremill
  • Seems I'm bleeding rank. After hitting my season high a week after placement I've gradually dropped by 100 over the last 3 weeks or so. No spectacular crashes like last season (and I know others have had a much worse runs) just the odd night of one loss more than a win or finishing evens, which of course means a very small rank drop.

The games are great for the most part though, vastly superior to anything quick play has to offer. I just can't climb. At all. Fingers crossed for better results in the new year.
  • Imagine having done your placement games and maintaining your rank for a fair few games.

Then going away for a few days, leaving your nephew to house-sit.

Then starting up Overwatch for a quick game and finding your rank has decreased over 600...
  • I really wanna get into comp with the PS4 guys.
  • Aww Stoph, that's brutal. I don't envy you having to try and climb outa that mess.
  • Comp's been tough the last few days with the fine bunch of chaps that are Prankster, Tred, Basil, and SlimJim. Brilliant, but tough. Lost a few earlier and dropped into gold, got back out, dropped back in, got back out, dropped back in, got back out and called it a night.

Had an amazing game with D.Va on Numbani amongst it all (had to have a break from Soldier), 4 gold medals from the off and kept em throughout. I didn't even mind when it ended in a draw. Good plays all round.

Anyhoo, feels good to finally commit to a season of competitive after playing mostly quick play til now. I've already played more of s3 than I did in either of the previous seasons and finally got my first golden gun out of it. The random mess of quick play has completely lost its appeal, if I wanna stress-free game I'll happily jump into one of the arcade modes instead. Just nothing on Ecopoint Antarctica, at least til they fix the problems with Mei accessing unintended parts of the map. Though it makes a difference from Reaper I suppose...

    :(

Nasty. I'm always terrified of that so I set up new accounts for house sitters.
  • 'Kay so we got the new map, Oasis, last night and it's bloody gorgeous. Srsly, the designers knocked this one outa the park, all three of the control areas are almost to pretty to fight on! When I first heard about the jump pad I was hoping for a few of them spread over the three areas with Quake style soaring and aerial kills, but we just got the one in one area and it's a nowt but a lil boost up. S'all good though, it works and is so much better than those bloody lifts on Hollywood. And yeah playing in the traffic isn't gonna get old any time soon.

The few games I had late on the new brawl were a bit of a mess though, with teams being a mix of first time gawkers and explorers and tryhards who'd orientated themselves in custom games. Hopefully it'll be better tonight and we'll get more of an idea of how to work the areas. Can already see Pharah working well here.
  • I've not managed to play on the new map yet, its not in ranked is it?

Finally managed to put a decent win streak together after the worst run that I've ever had on this.  Went from 3000 up to 3200!  Still seems to be a pretty mixed ability group though...
  • Nice win streak there, Nexx! And yeah Oasis is in comp rotation so it's well worth loading up a custom game with someone else and maybe playing a bit of the brawl.

I'm all Oasis'ed out after playing a stupid amount of the brawl tonight. Much respect to Prankster, Petey, and the crew for putting up with the horrors we faced for so long. It definitely feels different to any other control map, open yet with so many architectural features to disguise your approach. And Pharah does indeed work well here from what I've seen.
  • I've been so tilted for so long. Need to just enjoy the game for a while. The rank will return. Maybe.

    Need Doomfist.
  • Someone has left my team in 6/8 last solo queue games I've played. Nearly down to Gold now.

Nobody plays as a team. Fucking fucking twatty game. Won't even be able to play soon. Going on a mission to fix this tonight.
  • I'm still on a roll, up to 3340 now.  I've got a 24 hour xbox communication ban though after sending a slightly abusive message :(
  • I'm going to stop playing over wifi too. Keep having issues still.
  • Seems like you're having an even tougher time with comp than I am at the moment, Tiger. Sucks.

Big fan of the current PTR changes though, the slight Ana and D.Va nerfs should hopefully see more peeps running line-up's that aren't full of bloody tanks. Gotta say, I see Hog's Hook 2.0 as a serious buff though. Bullshit hooks were only ever an occasional thing for me, once a game maybe, but pulling someone into a random position where they couldn't be one-shotted was common. Especially Ana and Hanzo. Love the new multiple emote and spray options as well!
  • I'm so enamoured with this bloody game that I'm srsly considering shelling out on a gaming laptop (nothing too crazy money, was looking at one of these. Any other suggestions would be welcome). As easy as it is to get games on PS4 right now I just know that'll change over time, and I reckon this'll have a phenomenally long life on PC.

Would play both platforms as long as there's still life in the PS4 version, my friends on PSN are too lovely a bunch to even think about leaving.
  • Jumping on about 10pm. Won't be offended if you want to dodge my presence atm, Nexx!
  • Played a bit more Oasis tonight and the novelty's finally worn off. It's super pretty and undoubtedly well designed but it's still a KotH map. Think I'll leave it to come up in the game proper from now on.

Ended the night in quick play with Woodi, Lizzy, Scant, and The Legend of Warno and we got paired against Prankster, Tred, and Basil! I didn't even realise til I got a message from Prankster and checked the names of the opposition. We played a couple of games together, won one and lost one, and woulda happily carried on but a couple of teammates left after continuous PSN party and team chat problems. Not being able to talk to your team isn't ideal at the best of times, against Prankster and Co it was brutal.

That laptop should do you for 60fps if you lower some settings to high/medium, though if I were you I would wait a little bit for some laptops with the GTX 1050 GPU to come out, as the newer pascal architecture is absolutley miles ahead of the previous gen in the mobile form factor.

  • Top advice, thanks! Hopefully some of em will fall into my budget.

And in other news, and to me far more impressive than being voted GotY 2016 by IGN, Gamespot, and Eurogamer, "Overwatch" was the 11th most searched for word on Pornhub in 2016.
