It feels good to be back after a brief hiatus. And i am very happy - all it took was the Brigade layered outfit as a reward for Luna (not a huge Arena fan, so...). Now my female character looks wonderful, and i can equip all the min-max, mixed sets to my heart's content.

I know Capcom said they're gonna do more skins, but they really need to be better than the generic Samurai offerings we've seen so far. They would make a killing on paid DLC vanity items like every other game, so kudos for not taking that route (yet).

Any of the usual lot playing this? I've not been in the thread for quite a while.

Arch Kirin has been released and I'm so pissed off right now.

Pretty sure I had about 8 attempts with randoms and they keep dying... I'm draining my resources. I'm just about good enough to keep myself alive, but taking care of 3 others is too much.

I might try and make a good hunting horn for the fight (any recommendations? ). I just feel like I won't have enough time to play the songs.

I've been playing this sporadically with some close friends but by god the story mode / progress structure is frustrating when we've got limited time to play. Finally got us all into High Rank now after that dull Zora quest thankfully.

Gotta search for Rathian clues or something next, hopefully there'll be a bunch of new High Rank investigations to embark on now too.
  • I bagged all the arch Kirin gear and layered set over the weekend.  I ran the new Lunastra Flamer LBG with wide range 5 to keep the random suckers alive.  Item Specialist 3 was also pretty sweet with quicker cooldowns on mantles.

Cool fight.  Heavy punishment for small mistakes.

@Nina. Yeah, people do die a lot lol

I'm thinking of trying it with the bow today. Haven't had a chance to go back, only got 1 ticket so far.

Did you solo it or with randoms? I've had some success with the Diablos hammer, but as the fight is so heavy head focused, I feel bad for the people that don't have flinch free.

    ALERT ALERT

For those of us who like our Mohan on the go and as obtuse as possible, Generations Ultimate is up for pre order on the Nintendo Store
    https://store.nintendo.co.uk/games/nintendo-switch/monster-hunter-generations-ultimate.list

Release date August 28th, as if meant for my birthday.
You will be able to transfer save from Generations on 3DS to Switch.
And remember, XX / Ultimate hasn't come out in the UK so it's eligible for GOTY (basically aimed at Nina)

It's coming out on (I think) the same day my mom and brother are coming over. Sorry mom, but me and my buddy need to catch up while playing MH.

It's just further proof of the Switch tax. It's disappointing, because if they'd kept the price in line with the 3DS version (30-35 quid ish), I'd be all over it on day one. £50 pushes it into serious purchase territory.

Yeah, but in terms of serious purchases, it's a game that will never be (for me) far from number one on the system. I will put money on it being near £40 elsewhere - game collection or somewhere like that.

In terms of QOL absolutely. In terms of content? Fuck all. See Japanese people talk about it, they call it baby edition and western edition. Hardest monster in the game isn't even any where near a pre G rank

MHW was incredibly easy. I would wager 90% of people sent up an SOS flare for the achievement, rather than actually, y'know, needing help.

£40 for GenU would probably be "sod it why not but I'm not happy about it" territory.

Generations is going to be better for co - op I think. Online and offline is separate, but you're not losing out on much of you only do online. You still start low rank and everyone can do the same quests, even if one hasn't unlocked it yet. I did a quest that only unlocks at HR60 with my hunting buddy, but I'm not even close to that.

While I love World, the endgame isn't good enough. Generations is a lot better with that I think. Plus the designs are more fun.

I'm back on this after a much needed hiatus. Anyone about this evening?

I should probably make the push for HR100, but i'm not sure which Event Quests give the most XP.

    Any pointers?

Pretty much that. world has nothing to really push you, and the new Switch one is about to add crazy G rank shit.

    Bring them bagpipes.
  • I'm still playing @Curtis

    Currently rocking LBGs

There's a couple of event quests that give HR, the cherry blossom one is easier.

The Arch Tempered sets are worth getting from AT Kirin and Vaal. Get the Kulve set too, which has some decent pieces.

Summer Festival means everything currently unlocked. Plus new layered armour pieces and such.

Still a positive vibe amongst the community, certainly with those I play with. Like any game of this nature it's as good as who you roll with.

  • I'm with Nina in that both are GOTY contenders for me.

It intrigues me that the MH producer is mates with FFXIV producer Naoki Yoshida. Both games are criticised for being too easy and have a small amount of genuinely challenging content. FFXI and the original MH were as hard as nails. They make FFXIV and Generations look like weak sauce. As developers I think they're looking to grow player bases and build capacity in them to become more proficient players. Both FFXI and MH were niche, I hardcored both 15 years ago, but totally understand that this isn't a sustainable way to build a franchaise based on co-op titles. For these guys it's about people playing together. Of course you can solo, but at its core it's bringing people together. I had the pleasure of attending a presentation with Sugimoto for the launch of Tri and this core drive was intended back then. Perhaps it just took a while longer than first thought.
