Just did the blacksite mission, god was i underprepared!! Annoyingly i was carrying an unconscious solider (A) when another team member got knocked unconscious ( B ). I had to put the solider A down for a firefight. After I picked up solider B by mistake and got to the evac point. When we got back to homebase solider B was declared KIA and solider A was MIA.
You can't pickup dead soliders so i'm confused did solider B just bleed out on the way home?!?
My first case of major annoyance on the black site mission. Down to one sectoid, but it's mind controlled one character who's already killed one of the other guys.
But my ranger is in range and runs in to hack the thing to death. Missed a 94% attack twice.
My other guy recovers and the sectoid mind controls the ranger. By now I've got another shot at it from distance. Select fire and press x, only to notice too late I'm targeting the ranger, who dies in a hail of my own fire.
Im not great either, and i got my predator armour and magnetic/gauss guns after the Blacksite mission doh! Build a Guerilla Combat School asap, that will let you add two more people to your team. Extra bodies on mission really help. Also always, always have one person on your team on overwatch.
I built the combat school first thing, but have only managed to get 1 extra squad member so far. Also have the magnetic weapons developed, but have only been able to afford the shotgun and pistol. Will get on those soon.
I wasn't really sure what was going on with the world map at first, so probably wasted time and didn't get enough resources early on. I still intend to start again at some point.
A big thing to do is fail and start again, which is why I try not to play it on easy. You learn what you need, like building the GCS. If it isn't the first thing you build you're severely hampered.
I started again on Normal with Ironman on. Struggling through it most of the time, as a single mistake can cost so much. Where's my Invis Inc. style rewind?
I actually find it quite stressful. Probably played a bit too much the last couple of days.
That didn't go well. Had a whole squad wiped out in the black site and there wasn't much point carrying on.
I've restarted on Easy, although still with Ironman, because a lot of what killed me was game rules or enemy attacks I didn't know about. Not a problem in something like Dark Souls, but it's a bit much when you're 8 hours into a campaign and things you didn't know about can destroy all your progress. Next time I'd probably be 10 hours in and something else would get me, and there's only so many times I want to start again.
I'd already played through a chunk without it and thought I had enough idea what was going on to start again. Will see how this Easy Ironman run goes for now.
Reckon it's better to play ironman on the right difficulty setting. It ramps up the tension and tragedy, which is one of the things which makes Xcom so great.
You get gameover screens far quicker on XCOM2 than Enemy Within though. Injuries last longer, are easier to accrue, have lasting will damage etc. It is a harsh mistress. If you aren't prepared for your first Black Site mission, then you've wasted 5-6 hours. I also had a glitch where only one squad member could activate their EVAC command despite everyone being in the square - fuck having that happen on Ironman!
I had a glitch yesterday where nobody could fire or attack in overwatch. Only grenades would work. Fortunately it was fixed by a save and quit followed by a reload, so I guess that good to know for future issues.
Anyway, one thing that's for sure, there's not many things as satisfying in games as a good ambush:
Love a good overwatch drubbing. Careful putting your soldiers so close together on roofs though, if an enemy grenades it they'll take that damage and fall damage and probably fire damage too.
How do I get a better supply line? Do I just contact more regions? Do I automatically get supplies every month then? I'm making progress just lack of supplies is hampering me building the proving ground, shadow chamber etc.
