Coffee and Tea
  • That wouldn't have made much sense on the page it was intended for. Fail.
  • The coffee in this Dubai hotel is utter gash. Next time I go away, I might actually pack my Aeropress and some ground coffee.

  • Does anyone else find that coffee gives them really bad acid reflux? It's a shame really because the taste and aroma of decent coffee is delicious.

In terms of tea, I stick with M&S gold blend teabags, no better tasting black tea IMO.

That's not uncommon. It used to bother me but I had that pylori beastie in my belly. Doesn't bother me now.
Holding the wrong end of the stick since 2009.
  • Anyone recommend a good herbal tea?

  • No. There is no such thing.

We did, however, have an afternoon tea in the Emirates Palace Hotel (Mandarin Oriental) in Abu Dhabi. And I got a medium-roast Ethiopian coffee breeed by Chemex and it was lurvely.

  • I like Chamomile tea. I find it genuinely is relaxing, it isn't going to solve deep mental health problems or cure insomnia but it can take the edge off. Its a good 8pm drink. I just get Twining's. All the fruit flavoured herbal teas are terrible, like putting a microscopic drop of squash in hot water.

Ive recently been having a hot chocolate to relax. Green and Blacks organic cocoa, whole milk. No sugar added at all. Absolutely knocks me out.
  • The twinings buttermint is very nice. It's just peppermint tea with vanilla.

Also like the pukka sleep tea.
  • Cheers will try.

  • Does anybody here have a coffee subscription with anybody and experiences and opinions and recommendations and such things?

I’ve got a subscription with Pact which has been alright. You can postpone or move forward your next delivery depending on whether you’re overstocked/running out of coffee and specifically choose your coffee if you want instead of getting the one they pick out for you. There are probably ones that are a bit indie-r though if that what you prefer.

  • I’ve done pact too. They were good, always decent coffee. I’ve also done Beans Coffee Club, they seem to use some small roasters for some of theirs, so probably quite good from a socialist coffee drinking standpoint. All the ones I had were good. They all do decent offers for signing up, and often re-signing up, so worth doing the rounds.

  • The only alternative suggestion I have is to not do a sub and instead just order beans when you need them from a local quality roaster.

Yeah, sorry, I was gonna post that too. /pedant

This is what I do. I rotate between a handful of roasters I’ve become comfortable with. Like to browse their sites when I need more coffee and get latest nice coffee as they tend to source new varieties from small growers.

Always on the lookout for more roasters to try though.

  • Plus, you often get discount codes off the majority of them. I tend to just get a kg when that happens.

  • I get mine from Gordon street after the Gav recommendation during the Glasgow stock a few years back.
  • Thanks for all these. It's been a while since I was a coffee-guzzling teen and I truly love how labyrinthine the world of bean-choosing has become in the meantime (if you want it to be (which I do)).
