Finished this on Dante Must Die last night, not hard unless you are going for SSS ranking on each mission. Started Hell and Hell. That looks tough, but I have super Dante ability from DMD completion (infinite Devil Trigger) which makes it a piece of cake. You lose 50% of your score though for using it. Fuck it, I'm just gonna do HAH quickly and be done with the game.
Played Bloody Palace for first time a few days ago, seemed to never end. I think there may be 100 levels, I got to level 75 where they turn the stage upside down. I died.I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER. -
Played the first 2 missions. It's really good, the claw powers are a great way to keep combos flowing.

The start was alright. Dante was cocky, his swagger harking back to the Dante that we know.
But as the game wore on, sections became a slog, Dante became more serious, the game lost any sense of the series' silliness. The bosses are a dire bunch too, no real inventiveness in any of them. I thought the game started off a bit average and somewhat dull. Once you got all the weapons and more moves and combos, it got far better. Far from dull or crap. You can do some fantastic combos.I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.

Tried the demo on Bone. Probably not timed well for me as I just started playing Bayonetta on my Switch...

Looking forward to your thoughts about the demo, I can't play it. You and B are both so fond of 4 (I've only played bits of it, I need to fix that but it probably ain't gonna happen) and I'd like to jump in with 5.
Also found out this morning that one of my favourite artists (Rachel Fannan) is doing vocals on one of the songs, so that's pretty cool. -

It’s good. Wasn’t taken to it last night. Played again today and was better. I can see that the new stuff can take getting used to. And it doesn’t help that I’ve just started replaying Bayonetta on Switch, which is the pinnacle of the genre (subject matter and tone and stuff aside). I kept trying to Witch Time! Dodge on DMC5 is also slower.
It’s smooth, 60fps, responsive. Wouldn’t expect any less. Looks and sounds good. Combat is technical but seems slower but that could be relative coming onto it from Bayo. Wasn’t sure of Nero’s Devil Breaker system at first. And you can’t switch between the ones he is carrying, next one appears once one breaks. Lots dotted around the level though so can break on purpose if needed and pick up the one you want. Think it would’ve been better to be able to switch on the fly. Will need to practice to be able tk pull of some good combos and stuff. Dodge isn’t a button, it’s aim plus left/right and jump... not easy.
Could just be the demo, but enemies were slow and didn’t do much. So maybe it’s meant to be slower combat with slower enemies - but again could just seem relatively slower having just played some Bayo. An opening area I assume with popcorn enemies. Got to a boss and it was hard. Maybe I’m shit, but could only get it to half health.
Overall good, happy to play on release. I trust Capcom to make a decent brawler if not as good as Platinum’s best. But will need to play the whole game to form proper opinion and judgement. Edge preview was full of praise and they sound like they spent quite a bit of time with it.I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER. -
Watched the demo being played and am excited to get into another DMC, does seem like they are taking quite a bit from ninja theory’s DmC, with the more deliberate and slightly slower combat. Which is fine as I really enjoyed that game too.
I also liked 4, but replaying the game you’ve already played halfway through was a bit daft, didn’t bother me at the time, but haven’t played it since release which is odd for me and DMC. I even played 2 a couple of times.
Also worth noting that you can preorder this game for £40 right now (Amazon have bone version for 40, and smyths have it for PS4 for same price). Can’t imagine that’s the actual RRP. -
It's £45 on PSN so definitely seems to be a bit cheaper than other new releases. Same with Resi 2, so maybe it's Capcom being nice. Oh weird! Maybe they have started selling games at actual decent prices again? Not a fan of the £45-55 price point. I bought smash for £50 and it was painful.

Thanks for the write up though, didn't know there was a piece about it in edge, need to find that (having a digital subscription means you just forget about the magazine completely).
