What are Sony making for the PSVR now? It seems to be their hook in the river on the off-chance of a surge. Rift and Vive are carrying VR at this stage.

There's a few coming - they showed a fair bit at PSX. Dino Frontier is one that sticks in the memory, plus GT Sport (I think) but I forget the rest.

I've just had a look and it's not as bad as I thought. Although Resident Evil VII, Gran Turismo Sport and Ace Combat 7 are just regular games with VR modes.

Media Molecule have Dreams; there's an FPS called Farpoint; summat called Golem; and Star Trek: Bridge Crew.

    Sold!
  • Both look really good, bet they're not going to be cheap though.

I'm still loving the Vive, had some great sessions over the holidays. It still needs some proper games/applications though, hopefully something will appear soon.

Wahey! They dun Rifted the Vive! Good move for sure as having a PSVR and Rift really shows how convenient the all in one cap style solution is for VR. Really good step forward as long as it isn't a millionty pounds.
That cable looks a good deal more ... Rifty and less cumbersome too. Nice changes.

Though I do see the wireless thing as a step for the future I'm already now at the limits of the room I can use with a standard cable. I don't have much of a problem with the cable management either really once you are aware of it but I suppose no cable would be better.
Wireless to me just means batteries (weight) and/or charging (a pain in the butt now and again). If they could combine it with a comprehensive and flawless inside out tracking solution then I see it making far more sense. In the current predefined VR room setup stuff the cables are actually fine in my experience.

I don't think I 'd feel the need at this stage to spend extra on a wireless add-on is what I'm poorly trying to suggest. If a gen 2.0 product had it all built in then fairy nuff but as a (large-ish?) extra expense for the current crop...I think I'd save the cash.

Exactly... I've seen that and very much won't be ever using a wireless solution in anything like that way.

If they can get the inside out solution going so start to utilise more of the area (wandering about the house etc etc) I would have available then fair enough... the idea of training to be a professional acrobat (as I think that guy may actually be iirc) and pointlessly do backflips is... a proof of concept and nothing more.

  • AI in that game looks awful - enemy had its sword arm cocked and ready to go all the while that tit was showing off; shoulda just hacked him in half mid flip.

I mean it is a very snazzy proof of concept that RoadtoVR managed to get sorted iirc but what actual application is there for the wireless option in this gen? For home use it seems a bit.. unnecessary.
I'm all for it getting out there and folks working on the codecs and bandwidth requirements for low latency video transmission but.. outside of some kind of more commercial VR Park/Warehouse playroom kind of thing I still find it a hard sell to the already not huge current home consumer VR market?

It does look pretty handy if you can actually do backflips mind.. perhaps less so for the ceiling lamps...

  • Thing is - the only thing that bothered me after a while of using the VIVE was the wires, I kinda lost track of where they were in relation to me, but I could still feel them there.

For me, it would be a quality of life improvement, as opposed to something which would allow greater mobility. Still, for that price I'm not sure I'd bite.

There is certainly a future point where you'd have a thing the size of a cap/pair of big specs that you just put on and go, perhaps tuck a battery pack into yer pocket.

If this is another step towards that then all to the good indeed.

The floor height is a variable that is determined during the Vive setup procedure?

He also probably has decent enough proprioception to be aware of his own feet being the bendy type of athlete and all.. and then the feety bits hit the floor.. when he flips.. like he has done in the gym a fair few times.

The reduced vision from the Vive I could imagine wouldn't affect his landing too much if he's a good bouncy, flippity athlete?

    Probably this.
I've spent far too much of my life going up and down swimming pools and have got to the point where once I've done one length in any pool I can then swim it with my eyes closed.  I don't count armstrokes or anything, I just kinda know where I am in the pool from how the water feels.

On that gif, I think it's more impressive that he caught the 'sword'. The delay on the hit detection and blood spurt is canny shan though. I hope there's Z targeting.
  • Ah like knowing where your cock is when masterbating in the dark, gotcha.
  • Holy fuck , just played the Beginning hour in VR . And The Kitchen demo which was stunning .

Wow , it was like being there and I can see the scented candle working a treat . When I initially bought the PSVR I thought it was just a bigger screen and you looked around a bit. I didn't expect everything to show depth , you look down a hole and lean about you get to see more like you would in real life . The roof beams look real , it's blown my mind . I didn't expect it to be this good .

This isn't a very description of this but WOW and now it seems to be the only way to play the game .
All I need to do now is to open the window a bit so that its a bit colder ( like I did when I saw Blair Witch for the first time ) that candle and some adult nappies !

  • I haven't tried phone VR, but surely this is the holy grail in the long run? You can't expect folk to spend out £350+ for a headset, when the most expensive parts (the screens) are more than matched by modern phone handsets. I assume that the phone's gyroscope can cope with fairly accurate head movement too. All you need is to be able to output to the phone from the console, which the PS4 can do already.
  • I'm not saying that would be the optimum solution, just the mass market sweetspot.
  • Mobile is where it's heading but those lighthouses aren't going to be superceded anytime soon. A gyroscope isn't even approaching adequate.

Besides the threat of eye-mangle, wires are the main turn-off for me.

The greatest help I can imagine for VR is if Rockstar made GTA VI VR-only. I think that'd sell a fair few headsets.
