I just bought this on a whim on the Xbone and I'm enjoying it but, I've killed a couple of random bad dudes and have a few bounties stacked up, but don't seem to have enough fuel to get somewhere Federationy to cash them in, also most missions I look at, delivery ones, I don't seem to have enough fuel for those either. Am I missing something here I'm kind of stuck already.
Some ships don't have the fuel capacity for long jumps. But probably on the map you can plot the route to where you want to go in a series of jumps. It's the second option of the four that appear over a highlighted planet.
I haven't logged in since parking on an engineer world. Cobras are great tho. I'd recommend saving enough money to go straight from a sidey into a cobra mk3.
I found the best way to earn cash in my noobery was passenger missions and bounty hunt grinding. If you're lucky some bad boys got me 80k but that's plucking kills from security ships ganging on them. Stay away from adders.
And stay away from mining.
And hauling. It's only a big payer i got the impression if you have a late game freighter and a good route mapped.
Yeah I did land somewhere with a shipyard, i'd just spunked 50k on a railgun though so I couldn't afford it, blast! I've just been fined for not doing a mission and now I cba to go back.
It might be worth starting again and taking the 100k and buying something half decent and gimballed lasers.
As for flying jumps. Yes you will need to refuel along the way. Your drive can hold a certain amount of fuel but it can only use a certain amount for each jump. When you plot a route the dotted line will show the part of the route you to need to refuel before attempting.
I was flying a hunk of junk but I upgraded to an Eagle, I now have gimbled lasers and heat seeking missiles for when the shields are down, heh. I also found 9 pharmaceutical isolators which are very rare, am I quids in now or will I need them later? This game is great, though. I can imagine how epic it would be on a decent pc with 3 monitors. Are these randomly named ships I see other players?
I have pulled a few bounties out of their warp drive which is great fun, I almost feel bad when they scan my ship and just amble away before I open fire. I just need the thing that can follow the drive wakes, now
Last night I was exiting a station. And a ship flew in and destroyed me there in the tiny slot entrance/exit.
But I then did two data deliveries and I THINK I now have enough for a Cobra MKIII
I remember saving to get a Cobra too, then when I got it I realised I needed more than the same amount again to kit it out. Had to sell it immediately.
Think I was just doing Data deliveries and bounty hunting at Nav Beacons to get money at first. I then got a Viper MKIII which made bounty hunting much better, before getting a Cobra.
Got the Cobra to expand my options but i've mostly stuck with combat, earning money bounty hunting by hanging out at High Res Sites in my souped up Viper MKIII.
Participated in a Community Goal for the first time this weekend, currently set to rake in about 6 million space monies for being in the top 75% so i'l hopefully move on to something bigger like a Diamondback Explorer or Vulture.
So would you guysh recommend grabbing a Viper first instead of a Cobra? And fitting a few weapons? What would be the most effective (cheap)weapons?
What Im doing now is mainly data runs and a bit of bounty hunting. But Im finding my Eagle very underpowered in combat.
Or would a better option(in terms of quick money) be something like a hauler and less discovery data?
My goal right now is to make money. Ideally Id like to do some exploring. Just head out into the galaxy.
If combat's your thing (at least for making money), then Viper MKIII is a great ship. I heard the Eagle's defence can be a bit paper thin.
Mine's fitted with 2F Gimballed Pulse lasers and Gimballed 1G Auto Cannons and Chaff. Also got some military grade hull reinforcement, a Bi-weave Shield Generator, a Kill Warrant Scanner (mapped to same trigger as pulse lasers), Interdict thingy (which i've not used yet), and as much power and distribution as I can afford.
I use my Cobra to jump big distances, then transfer my Viper to go bounty hunting in the locales.
When you sell a ship, always strip all the modules off it first. Some you will be to use on your new ship, the others you can sell.
You get more money from stripping the ship and selling all the bits than selling it fully loaded.
If you want to explore you will need an Asp Explorer. It has the best jump range, the best view and the best engine sound. But it ain't cheap and it ain't cheap to kit it out.
I bought myself a Viper and fitted an extra pair of gimballed cannons and chaff. The ship is some upgrade on the Eagle. The speed is fantastic in comparison. I went to a high activity resource extraction zone but only found one bounty.
