Ouch, I suppose it's really aimed at the teenies who never really got the chance

I'd pay that to watch Botch, but that's just because they're probably the last of the bands I loved that I've never been able to watch. But yeah, that's a festival price as far as I'm concerned

  • I like Green Day, but they're very much the punk equivalent of Metallica when it comes to money. I remember covering T in the Park the year they headlined. In fact, I'm sure they headlined a number of the big UK festivals that summer. They flatly refused to be filmed for the telly at any of these appearances because they had their own live video coming out at Christmas and they didn't want TV coverage to impact potential sales.

  • Saw rancid play nice n sleazys in glasgow way back when. Great night that. Dont think a huge outdoor gig would have quite the same potency. Great band but should revert back to operation ivy and tour wee gigs i reckon
  • Time has come to...push the button. Block Rocking Beats with my Bro's in Blackpool tonight. Excite.

Sleazy's is exactly the type of venue punk bands should play in.

That Green Day & Rancid gig is coming in at £56.25 per ticket. They can fuck the fuck off.

My older bro was behind the scenes for the booking of this, and he was telling me that the list of potential names that were being casually mentioned for this slot before settling on GD made his head spin.
  • I saw Green Day in ’91 for under two quid.

In 2002 I saw Green Day supported (across two support stages) by Iggy Pop, Idlewild, Levellers, Hundred Reasons, Wildhearts, A, Face to Face, Rival Schools, and a few other shite bands. £25 all-in.

Now, I like Rancid a lot but last time I saw them at the Barrowlands it was only £14-ish. The time before it was under a tenner.

I accept that gigs are expensive nowadays. I accept that a one-off outdoor gig means building a whole festival infrastructure. But if you’re gonna do that, make it a full lineup and worth the investment – not just two bands.
  • There'll be more in the way of local support acts announced closer to the time, but I totally agree with you.

Had a look on Google Maps – I think it’s called The Mile now? Used to be a cracking gig venue, long before the Vic became one. Practice room upstairs, pub downstairs. All the Derby bands used to play there (pre-Lightyear by a few years).

The Garrick used to be on the industry list for ‘secret’ and ‘warm-up’ gigs, so a lot of mid-tier indie bands played there despite it being tiny. They used to sell T-shirts that said ‘haven’t I seen you somewhere before?’ on the front and had a list of bands who’d recently played on the back. I definitely saw Placebo, 3 Colours Red, Space, Bluetones, Catatonia, The Almighty, Therapy, A, Hum, and a shitload of others as well as local acts like Cable, Scribble, The Beekeepers, Gorilla, etc.

Ah, the Thirsty Scholar by the time I got there, or the overlap was really short. They killed the music going on there, but strangely still mentioned the practice rooms every now and again

Ahh, you've mentioned some bands there, gonna have to dig out a playlist or two

  • Pearl Jam UK were absolutely brilliant, and whether they were or not is irrelevant because it was a great night.  £12.50 in the end!  Cousin's mate got escorted out for jumping on stage, Eddie Vedder got him in a headlock, then dedicated Deep to him while the bouncer carried him out, then the crowd chanted "bring him back!" until he was allowed back in.  I managed to grab the setlist at the end in the stage rush, great night.  There will be a video tomorrow, the headlock stage dive was captured expertly by his cousin.

One song post-2000 - that's how you do Pearl Jam.
  • Chemical Brothers.

I liked the giant robots with their laser beam eyes.

  • So apparently the thing to do at a Peaches show is to take your top off and ask strangers to let them on your shoulders. nay complaints from this one.
Was a slight change from the near crushing of King Gizzard's set. Pretty awesome all round.

So hang on someone took their top off and you sat on their shoulders? You're a big man, he must have been pretty powerfully built.

Skerret's posting is ok to trip balls to and read just to experience the ambience but don't expect any content.

  • Here's Mr. Bumcrack's Pearl Jam tumble rush.  Didn't realise he thought he was gonna stage dive off into a pocket of no-one until I watched it again.

His cousin poured beer into his bum crack in the pub after, so he smashed a load of glasses and stormed off into the night.

    I don't think I've seen a band in there since Jonathan Fire*Eater.  So yeh...overdue a visit.

In Mancland tomorrow though for Cate Le Bon.  She's playing back-to-back nights in the Deaf Institute. Two years ago, I saw her in Liverpool @LEAF.   There's  loads of venues that could support an act of her size here, but the number of bands that bypass our fair port city to go play Manchester instead is becoming a bit silly.

  • It definately picked up by the time Ash came on, it was absolutely rammed. Cracking gig. Knocked it out of the park.
  • Idlewild acoustic gig last night at Sleazy’s. That was properly good. Lots of love in the room.
  • Saw The Dillinger Escape Plan on Friday. It's their farewell tour, so that'll be the last time they play Manchester. They were good, but someone in the pit had a seizure or something, and the band stopped the show early and didn't come back on. A shame.

The support band were ho99o9 (pronounced horror I found out) and they were amazing. Bad Brains crossed with Death Grips, to give an uninspired comparison.
  • Oh man, saw Dillinger Escape Plan supporting Seafood way back in my mid-teens. Time fucking flies.

Yeah they've been at it for around 20 years and have decided to quit. I thought some of the older stuff sounded a bit tired on Friday.

Got Mare gigging at the gallery on the 31st.

Been on it with everyone, making the venue look different from last season in time for it. Still got fuck loads to do and only a week to box it all off.
