Gran Turismo 6 Released December 6: OP Updated
  • What's a changelog? (I clicked the linky and it wouldn't worky for me).

Two nice seasonals.. got the Gold at Indianapolis first time of trying but the Bathurst one is going to take a little more effort.

Not big cash even with the 200% bonus but nice cars to win.

Ah-ha.. Got that link sorted from my phone and seems to have died or I buggered it up Hold that thought. There was  all sorts of stuff potentially fiddled with as ti is a 1.04 update.

    Edit: lets try this..

Edit again..: This was the bit that sounded interesting though under a section of 'User Gatherered changelog' is completely up in the air on it's accuracy..

  • The alteration to the amount you slow down off track is a bastard when you come off worse against the AI and have to scamper back on to the track at a much reduced speed!

  • Trying to do the pre 79 classic super car race without dropping 2.8 million on a GT40 is proving tough.

I'm sure it's doable with my tuned Lancia Stratos but it's short wheel base is making it a bitch to drive.. it wants to swap ends like nobodys business... I'm not sure the big wing I've stuck on the back to try and help with this is helping or not.. got to 4th with a whole lap to go but I'm not sure it's fast enough.. but I don't think it can cope with a any more power.. going to have a play around with the gear ratios before admitting defeat and buying a contach.

Haven't tried this but can't you use a Corvette or Camaro? Fully tuned, they should match the GT40 and I take it we don't have to race Chaparrals this time!
  • Has anyone come up with a good explanation of why this sold so badly compared to the last one? I might pick this up myself now that it's cheap.
    "..the pseudo-Left new style.."
  • Probably because GT5 was about as soulless as they come and signalled that the series was incredibly stale. GT6 goes a little way to rectifying that, but not far enough and the damage was already done by its predecessor.

Not to mention that its online system is a mess. It's in dire need of some structure and some "easy access" lobbies, instead of the clusterfuck that is user-designed lobbies.
  • General sales decline of the genre and the sim racer crowd have gone to PC. Casual fans, who you need if you want to sell 10 million, aren't going to invest the time needed in a traditional GT any more, they're shooting people in COD or playing FIFA all year instead.
  • Japanese companies still can't design a decent lobby. Just get some guy that used to work on CoD if you're really that bad.

I'm not sure a PC exodus could explain it. I can't imagine that many of the original GT crowd shifting to PC over one genre. I never really saw GT as that muc of a sim. It has gear ratios and shit but it's got an RPG grind structure and a car-porn attitude.
    "..the pseudo-Left new style.."
  • Ugh, so the Senna content will be out by the end of the month but instead of just telling us what that will entail, PD leave it all vague and secretive, creating a vacuum that people will fill with all kinds of wishful thinking.... then they'll probably just reveal a Time Trial in that Senna car/something equally dull.

Why not just tell us? And end this constant tease-disappoint communication cycle. Hell, we're still waiting for the promised GT6 course maker, B-Spec mode, GPS tracker thingy to turn your route to work etc into a track, Quick Race + other online updates. PD, evil masters of the fan tease.

Looked at that and I'm a little bit torn, they've altered the tobacco sponsorship, which I understand but then GT is supposed to be a virtual museum so I'm really not sure if it should be the original jps on there or not

    Well that was boring...
  • they don't allow tobacco sponsorship on model recreations any more either.. so it could possibly be a legal requirement.

Really? That's mental. I'm trying to remember that Senna movie a couple of years back, did they air brush the film to remove names as well. It's a bit like the way wwf erased Chris Beniot after that incident

  • I just watched it. The bit of him sliding around the track in the Mountain Dew Lotus is amaze.
    "..the pseudo-Left new style.."
  • No they clearly can't alter footage but I own a model of the Williams Senna died in that was the last replica allowed to have the actual tobacco company logo on it. You would have to imagine any law covering models would cover computer modelling.

  • After watching that clip I'm really looking forward to 80s porn star makeup coming into fashion. Bound to happen at some point right?

  • That's quite brilliant.

I only just found out that they've patched the 3D back in and made it so you can fiddle with the options from the pause menu instead of dropping right back to the start game options.

Will be testing that out in a bit then. I liked me some 3D GT5.

  • Screens of the free Ayrton Senna tribute stuff due this week....no day given, there's licencing issues....true PD-vagueness.

  • Looks like the update will be in the wee hours tonight.

    http://www.gtplanet.net/gt6-online-service-maintenance-announced-for-may-30th-ayrton-senna-content-expected/

Looking forward to doing some Suzuka hot-lapping in an F1 car again. Hope it doesn't sound too much like a household appliance.
  • Wow. Is it free? Excited for this so would probably splash some real life cash. Maybe time for an early morning.
    The Forum Herald™
  • Yeah, all free. Monza and Brands Hatch are getting 80s layouts/makeovers too.

It's not 100% definite though - just highly likely - so it might not be worth getting up early for, in case of disappointment.
  • In that case I'm very excited
