  • I'm playing Last Day of June at the moment. It should be my kind of thing but at the moment, hmmm.

What a great fight. No idea how I clawed that back.
  • Looks great.
I'm still great and you still love it.

metroid Samus returns is hitting all of my pleasure sensors. Firstly a delight to fire up the old 3ds again. Then a delight to see Samus back in 2d. And then it turns out that this is a modern metroid, with the nostalgia and all the quality of life things you would expect from a 2017 game. Ohhhhh it's good eating
  • Castlevania los, final boss of the dlc.
Yes it's an oldie but had never played it before. Grabbed it for a tenner at a Steam sale.

I'm torn on this game. Mercury Steam has delivered an aesthetically beautiful game with an epic narrative yet it frustrates and delights in equal measures. For every ooh set piece there's an aargh insta death platforming section.

I dunno why I keep going but I might as well finish it as I'm at the final boss. Oh well.

  • Is that The Great One or whatever it's called? I was disappointed with the DLC and the boss.

I'm well excited about it. Just need to somehow finish something and juggle stuff around so that Zelda becomes a home game and Metroid becomes the train game.

Just finished my second Dishonoured 2 playthrough. It's a crazy amount of fun when you let yourself off the leash of non-lethal/stealth and do what you will in NG+ with most powers from Corvo and Emily already unlocked. Definitely helps that the story telling and LORE this time around were bobbins.

I wonder how either D2 or Prey would have differed if they'd focused rather than splitting efforts.
  • I started a murderous playthrough with Corvo but got distracted/Bone started playing up. Need to get back. Looks fun being a murderous  cunt.

In hindsight, whilst it wasn't as good as first game or as fresh, it was still thoroughly enjoyable with some great bits.

Forgotten One aka Reverie I think.
I like the narrative and epic ness but I hated the timed platforming bits. Easily the weakest part of the game.

  • Currently working my way through Sonic Mania on the Switch - I picked it up for my holiday flight a few weeks ago and I've stuck with it since I've got back - really enjoying it!

Just the right amount of difficulty, a brilliant soundtrack and it feels like they've taken a page from Mario Galaxy's book - they introduce little gameplay/traversal mechanics that are only used once - it keeps the whole thing feeling fresh.

Also spent the entirety of yesterday evening with Yakuza 0 Probably my GOTY so far - I absolutely love it. I've just gotten to chapter 3 and the story has me hooked. I lost a good 45 minutes at the bowling alley and the on the UFO machines - it does everything I liked about Shenmue perfectly.

I started playing Magicka. It's kinda fun. But I haven't got my head round it properly so I worry I'll end up spamming the two things I've remembered rather than trying random combos!
  • Magicka, and the sequel, are exactly the types of games that sound great on paper and that I think I'll like but, when I get to actually playing them, I get bored easily. Just not my thing, unfortunately.
  • They're more for the multiplayer aren't they?

Anyone fancy joining me on Steam then??

Yar, I think so. The whole "magic is dangerous" stuff is probably better when there's 2 or more peeps raising hell. Solo, it's just annoying finger gymnastics.

mayber. will see what request for steam vouchers nets me and whats left after must buys.

  • Just done the first hour or so of Child of Light. I like it so far.

Weird choice of difficulty levels: Casual or Expert. Don't feel like either TBH. Went for Expert and it seems like the right decision - makes the combat a decent challenge.

  • Reviews suggest mercury steam's remake is pretty good.
Am2r is also very good in a more traditional way. Definitely rivals nintendo's own gba efforts in quality and gameplay.

Just played the first few shines of Super Mario Sunshine on Gamecube. A game that has been lying in my pile of shame for over a decade. Seeing some youtube content of speed runs has provoked me into playing it. Now that my gamecube is hooked up to my retro CRT with an official RGB SCART lead this shows GC games off at their best. It looks absolutely gorgeous.

The odd camera episode aside this is enjoyable so far - I gave up on this when I first played it and actually traded it in when my attitude to gaming was less than positive. Was a big deal at the time given my Nintendo fanboyism then. Think I may come to appreciate this now.

Sunshine is a Mario I'd like to re do. I too gave up on it but I remember really liking the feel of the whole thing - just irl got in the way. Would like a retro release on switch at some point I think although, as has been pointed out, that'd be pretty tricky without the analogue triggers.

I'd like to double dip on 3D world too on switch. This is much more likely and I expect to see it during 2018.
