Err raytracing stuff, only used in two games atm, Battlefield V and Metro Exodus. Bit more realistic lighting and stuff for a hefty performance hit, not really worth spending money on just yet, probably needs a few more years for it to become at all viable for the average midrange GPU. Cool tech, and it will be cool to see it get used much more in the future though.
If apple jumps ship to arm architecture, is it only a matter of time before others (MS and Google) do too? I do realise MS is burdened with a lot of legacy sw so a switch to arm based w10 isn't likely to be adopted quickly.
edit: article is slightly dated but still relevant as 2020 looms ever closer.

I've also started Cultist Sim and can definitely agree, what the fuck?
I did get a fair distance with the aspirant on the third go but I couldn't shift the dread. Getting my health back into dreams wasn't making me content enough.
Turns out DLSS is a bit worthless, other upscaling methods can be just as good. Considering how much it was hyped by Nvidia as a major new feature with Turing it's been very disappointing so far.
We all know MS wanted to merge w10 and xbone gaming at the hip with uwp. That move failed miserably due to Valve's Steam and other pc 3rd party publishers crying wolf. MS pulled back and shelved that plan indefinitely for another day.
Well that other day is almost here. Predicto, next gen come 2019/2020 MS will open up w10 to play Xbone discs/ ROMs. What will this mean for traditional PC gaming? I suspect dx11/12 releases will continue to exist alongside the Xbone releases from ms and the live store. This will essentially fragment the market even more but it will give MS inroads to expand the Xbone market into pc territory.
A bold move but not sure how this will work out for ms and the Xbone brand. Will this next gen strategy be enough to lure PC gamers to the xbox live store? Time will tell.
Heh, MS' pc gaming track record is pretty lousy agreed!
I too have my doubts about this move.
It's painfully obvious MS covets the w10 gaming throne and wants it back from Valve who's comfortably occupying it with Steam. Valve has no intention of giving it back to MS despite their valiant SteamOS and proton efforts; the w10 market is way too big and profitable for Valve to just give up without a fight.
MS on the other hand does not want an exodus of w10 users to SteamOS/Linux. They can't force UWP to devs so they've come up with an alternative strategy; bring xbone releases to the pc and publish them through the xbox live store. The problem with the above is yeah, they're expanding to pc but now they're not competing with just Sony, they're also in direct competition with Steam, Origin, Epic, Gog, Battle.net and Uplay. Stakes are high and for MS faillure is NOT an option....

It's about the services. If they do this they can then start selling game pass subs to PC players and its another step towards making their games payable anywhere.
I'm curious as xbox games don't tend to have graphics settings.
There's also the question of 360 backwards compatibility. It'd be cool if this opens that up.
Yeah, that's the edge MS have. Game pass, achievements, cloud saves, friend list and likely cross play on any game between PC and Xbox likewise cross purchase.
Call for help,
I bought trials rising, it runs fine except the gaming window crops off a third of the the width and height
Tried changing the config file (resolution, full screen, border etc) but to no avail
Any suggestions?
Pretty interesting to see just how much difference there is now between 4 through to 8 core CPUs in terms of performance in many games. I remember the days when the general wisdom was that games don't use more than 4 cores, and having much more really wasn't important for gaming. Goes to show that there's something in that idea of 'future proofing'...
