Thread of the Cancellèd
  • I’m sure it’s all true but it’s also probably getting pumped out into the media now for divorce leverage.
  • Billionaires are creepy fuckers by definition. He's been buying up shitloads of US farmland for some reason too -

Bill Gates is the biggest private owner of farmland in the United States. Why?
  • For the same reason Dyson is the biggest farming landowner here?  It’s a massive tax benefit when he passes it all on to his heirs.
  • Bill Gates gives all his money away and becomes three times as rich!
  • He’s gonna have his wealth halved in the divorce and still end up more rich Than before.
  • Funny how that works isn't it.

I'm not sure I get you. Land is the most scarce of the three and only getting more so. Is it the fact of the statement that you don't like or do you think it's factually incorrect.

  • He is disgusted by the concept of assholes hoarding land using money they took from their labourers.

Workers are the most important resource, and capitalism's goals require that resource to be exploited to make as much money as possible to spend on shit no one needs like 60 bajillion hectares of bullshit when the money could have been fairly taxed and used to support the societies that the workers have to live in while they are enriching the people at the top.

I dunno if I could agree with all that. Definitely agree that taxation (both its acquisition and redistribution) needs much work the world over and I'd also agree that no-one needs or should be allowed own either a bajillion hectares or the same in currency. That said, I dont think capitalism is the sole issue behind rampant consumption of resources - it works as a fuel alright but capitalism in itself isn't strictly the cause. Socialism wont necessarily change that aspect of peoples behaviour.

Also would argue that no, workers are not the most important resource. They may be the must under appreciated and abused resource (I'll agree there) but no business (and no socialist form of production) works on the basis of creating jobs. Its a product or service first and as demand grows so does the need for workers. And I say this as someone who is a worker myself. If demand for what I do drops, socialism would not save my role.  I can just to leave my role and the business still continues and the role still exists after I go and that goes for both public and private sector. Unfortunately no matter how useful or good I am, I am a cog in a machine. It's why I wish I had taken a chance with my own business a few years before I took on the whole House/ Wife/ Child dynamic. Now I would be gambling three peoples futures, not just my own.

Anyway, wrong thread for this kind of thing.

  • True wrong thread.

I'm just thankful every day when I wake up that I can be safe in the knowledge that even though people may not recieve the support they deserve from their local authorities and national governments, even though their pensions may disappear, that they can be fired for no reason with the first two years of work, that they will have to wait a year or more to recieve treatment for mental health issues or serious physical medical conditions, even though their children must attend school in overcrowded classrooms and that far more of their monthly earnings has to go on paying the rent than at any time in modern history, at least the supply of goods and services will be protected and prioritized and I can order my Twilight anthology DVD box set from Amazon and have it brought to my door the next day by a guy who will receive disciplinary proceedings if he stops to take a shit on his delivery route.

Edit: Anyway, sarcasm aside, yo for real fuck Billy G what is he doing befriending Epstein AFTER he was identified as a right old nonce!?

Yeah, more for the economics or politics threads, but we do live in a world where capital earns more than labour, which is not only morally repugnant, it's unsustainable. Much of that capital is tied up in land, hence my scale thing, though I was a beers in after the footy

That's 'cause we are in the herd. They will feed us enough, give us enough pills and healthcare to keep us going, while we work the machines to feed us, make the pills, and fix us - within parameters that optimise what we consume - so that the little numbers keep totting on the right computer screens.  They will train us to work the machines but not enough to think why. And they will give us distractions (made by the herd) to keep us what is mistaken for happy. We are an animal that can suffer a great deal. So the herd will be pushed and squeezed harder and harder while distracted by  more rubbish we are trained to feel we need and work to get. Some of the things we strive to get spy on us now and enable us to be managed better.  If you are outside the herd, you are in the 3rd world and your resources are ransacked to keep the herd going.

    it's a wonderful world.

Those who run the herd are hollow men. Constantly trying to fill a void that they will never , ever fill.

Awww fuck Davy, that's hitting hard, in a good way, but exposing my internal hypocrisies. I often talk about how the domestication of animals was an unwritten contract, die earlier but don't ever die of exposure, predation, disease, or infirmity

That post reflects that in so many ways, that we're willingly walking into a domestication situation, yet just like with the industrialisation of our farming, we're walking into a situation with shit husbandry where we're not protected from the risks above

I like to think art punches through.  We only need to look at it/read it/listen to it and start thinking. The hollow men don't get it.  And when their plans are dust it will still be there.
