Hello guys, I am in need of network aid again. We have a new supplier (EE) because sky were shite and we were paying too much, and my Mum's ongoing struggle for a permanent job means cuts such as Sky are necessary (take that Society's ills thread)
The problem is every device in the house will connect to the net except my brother's laptop. It's an old vista thing my mum had from her old job, and it only connects to the router, which it defines as 'unrecognised' and flags it up as 'local'.
I've reinstalled the wireless adapter, attempted to ping the router with no success, disabled security and firewall etc to no avail.
I am out of ideas now. Please help me obi wan, you're my only hope.
@workid yep, I said as much in the post. Luckily I remembered to turn it on as I've done that plenty.
@mod I'll give the wired thing a go tomorrow. Weirdly I've heard the phrase 'gee up' 5 times today now, after not hearing it before now. There must be a word for that.
I have an LG 47lm640T.
Twonkey eh? Never heard of that. My tv is on the same network as my PC, I've just never streamed a stream from my PC to another location before.

ok, i wrote this in the gadget thread but didn't get any help there so i'm here
I need a new laptop for work but not massively high spec, budget is upto about 450-500 but I have found this which i think is pretty good.
.
ok, so i'm thinking this;
Samsung 350V5C Core i3 Windows 8 Laptop in Silver - NP350V5C-A08UK
from laptops direct - £404.97
Can anyone find something better for that price or is there something glaringly wrong or where i should pay 20 quid more to get xyz?
I will need it for work so thinking to go heavy on the ram.
also do people still need to buy office? Or does it come free/do i just get a code from someone?
He could've just said they came from another planet but seems keen to convince people with his bullshit pseudoscience that he knows stuff. I wouldn't trust him with my lunch. - SG
Cheers beano. The i5s go up quite a lot more in price though.
Seems amds are much cheaper than anything else in the market.

Can anyone explain why I am consistently getting speedtest results of around 10ms ping, 50Mb DL and 3Mb UL and yet everything I do on all PCs/devices in my house is painfully slow (most of the time)? I can't even stream iPlayer or 4OD successfully and loading any webpage takes an age, even a basic Google search.
