I love them too. Boss gauntlet was such a good addition. Hours of content
  • I loved every boss. Except for hidden fiery big mother. Didn’t enjoy that one as much.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • The last boss fight is among the all time greatest boss fights. This is where Jon comes in and starts moaning about multiple health bars and no checkpoints. Bleugh, I say.
I am a FREE. I am not MAN. A NUMBER.
  • If he comes in I will simply parry him as he is not specialised in melee fight
  • I despise it even more since Nioh 2. From should learn from that. Hopefully they have for Elden Ring.
  • So got up to Genichiro Ashin with his bow and arrow and I think up until this point I wasn't really playing the game how it's supposed to be. To be fair I probably cheesed all the other encounters. Like the guy before, I sneaked behind, then used poison to take him out, and just kept out of his way until I could nail him to the wall.
It's certainly taken a hell of a lot longer to get its claws into me because of how much different it is to the Soulsborne games but it's ok so far. DIsappointing that a lot of the boss fights I've seen on youtube so far seem to be about cheesing the bosses instead of taking them on at their own game. Not something I saw a lot in DS runs.

  • It's plain sailing after you beat him, until the next curveball boss.
  • I beat him then sailed for a while then thought 'fuck this' at the next barrier and never played it again. Took all the fun out of it for me.
  • I couldn’t beat Old Great Owl or what ever he was called. And then gave up but loved it till then.
Wii U Themagickman - PSN - Themagickman   Xboxlive - Themagickman
  • I couldn't beat the 2nd phase of the giant ape but loved it till then, might restart it.
  • Second phase really really frustrated me at first. Once it clicked, it wasn’t so bad and was super enjoyable. Great boss.

  • Had more issues with the rando ghost lady in the village / woods than the ape. And that fucking cannon prick in the swamp. Apparently you can cheese him but I’m stubborn.
  • Amazing game.

It really is, but I was a bit like Rev at first - it's so different to other games produced by From it's almost jarring. This was the only Soulsbourne game that I initially gave up on, but I'm so so glad I went back.
  • Don't mind continually having to fight Genishiro Ashin, because unlike should games, rather than dodging and blocking, you're going toe to toe with them and it feels like a 'real fight'. Especially if you get the mirakl counter sorted. Getting them to the second health bar most times now.

  • It's the silly little jump and grapple you've got to do between each attempt that got me the most. Cunty. Great fight that though.

I suppose the new consoles run this better now? I played this when it came out on an old ass Bone...

If im remembering correctly they just brute force it to 60fps but it's better for it.
  • So I beat the first phase of genichiro ashin and I was pleased as punch because I managed to mikiri his first jump in attack but then got my ass whipped which is fine. Got him down to 2/3 health for a first try. But now I have to go back through the first two stages again.. And I'll be honest. It's making want to just draw a line under the whole thing.

  • That was where I gave up the first time. It is a hurdle, but when you've done it, it's mostly downhill from there in terms of difficulty.

If you're thinking of chucking in the towel, I'd recommend watching a video of how to beat him. When you know what you are doing, each phase can be beaten in a matter of seconds. Each move has a sequence and a tell, and you just need to know how to react to it.

It's just heard to learn that when you're getting your arse handed to you again and again.
  • In all honesty I feel I'm cheating because when I beat him I was running round his left side and then just twatting him with my sword, then rinse and repeat. He only pulled out the big moves occasionally and most of the time he did that grab attack, which I stood back from and then blade swiped him. I'm sure I'm going to get it, but I haven't felt as big a sense of 'fuck this' since Fume Knight. It's one of the things I think From just don't do well, that you have to be perfect for 15 minutes straight otherwise it's a pain in the ass to get back again.
I've learned all the moves and I think I'm at the point where I get pissed off with myself when I fail on a silly mistake.

  • Are you regularly parrying his blows?

  • Yeah. I've got it down pretty well.

  • Ah cool. Sorry if it sounded like I was being a dick, I just picked up on your comment about cheating him, and wondered if you were parrying or not.
  • I thought that the fight against Genchiro had you up in his face parrying everything - at least until he goes all electric? Do you just mean cheating the second phase? If so, I wouldn't feel too bad about that - it's a bit of a flashy gimmick, though it looks awesome if you do it the intended way (while he jumps up to electrify the ground, you can absorb his bolt and send it back at him, then follow with a lot of damage).

What I think From could do better is more clearly show how the lightening absorb mechanic works before the fight, but that's never been their style.
  • Yeah. I also think multiple phase boss fights where you've already proven you can beat a phase but then need to beat that phase perfectly in order to stand a chance against the next phase are just Grade A level bullshit.

  • The feeling of achievement beating him was on another level. I thought that was enough to get me through the rest of the game but when the next boss demanded nearly the same amount of focus and reflexes, I realised that I never wanted to go through that again in a videogame and swiftly deleted it. Challenges like that should be optional. Don't hold the rest of the game back from me because the challenge is too much. I paid money for it.
  • My parrying game is down completely but unless you chip off some of his health his posture just seems to repair pretty quickly. I'm getting the Mikiri counter down 95% of the time. The last three times I've got through to lightning phase I've twice had one more resurrection, but because I'm down to 2 flasks I'm finding it difficult the even start to learn his move set. Que me then going back to having to play for 10 minutes again perfectly in order to get back to the phase I'm trying to learn. It's not fun. It's a fucking slog.

I feel between Bloodborne and DS3 From suddenly felt they had to live up to the intended hype of being 'hard as nails' and this seems to be reflected solidly in Sekiro. And I know the likes of Tempy have mastered the game and I get that. But like you said, I'm here to be entertained, and this is really stretching that definition so it's like an endurance test here.

Not at all. I didn't realise how easy it was to get round the side of him and take a swipe.
