Currently have 3 different stories out on submission. One is in slush, one might be past the first round of slush by now, irunno, and the other is the aforementioned rewrite... which I'm still waiting on.
The big thing for me is managing to keep on cracking and build up something of a roster to keep firing out. Have 4 stories at the moment (though one isn't quite there and I need to have another look at it, I think).
I've not sent anything off yet (can't seem to settle on one idea) but I'm having a bit of a writing get together today, hoping to get traction on something.
Luckily, mine is just a friend who helped me get started in writing. Though there is a local writing group for me, just too bad it's only on one Sunday a month and I work every bloody Sunday.
No worries, Stoph. Most of these places advertise their pay-rate and they're typically x pence/cents per word.
Place that wants to buy it pay 5 cents a word (minimum pay for pro-rate). Story is approx. 5,900 words. So that's $295, which translates to a bit under £200.
Yeah, you're absolutely right. It's just so nice to know that someone valued the story enough to think it was worth putting out there. Very gratifying.
I'm struggling to write anything new at the moment, so I've gone back to expand on the world of my Mothgate short story. Building up the world around it is quite comfortable, rather than writing something completely new. It's good fun too, reading up on Scandinavian folklore/monsters and tweaking to fit.
2 stories out in submission at the moment. One with Shimmer, who bought Mothgate, that's with the full editorial board again. Not terribly hopeful on that and I'm certain they'll ask for a rewrite at best. I like the concept though - Takes the idea of the Nine Tailed Fox and sticks it in a contemporary setting, forming a bond with a lonely ex-pat in Seoul. The other story is that necromancer-type thing I posted on here. Not having much joy with that.
Anyone else doing any writing at the moment? You started editing your novel yet, Chief?
you really need to stop doubting yourself. That's a well structured review right there. I think writing about games you didn't get on with is an important thing for building experience.
Good stuff though mate.
Sometimes here. Sometimes Lurk. Occasionally writes a bad opinion then deletes it before posting..
Got the proof through last night for the next issue of Shimmer. It looks awesome! Can't bear to look at my own story of course... Doesn't feel like it belongs.
We weren't really sure what the relationship was, and we didn't feel any chemistry between Adam and Kumiho, and we felt that the story felt a little 'thin', for its length (it felt a little repetitive in places, and it felt more about the setting than the characters, and while we did like the descriptions it read like a travel journal at times, where we were hungry for more story).
Kill me now. (Note, I've taken out the pleasantness and just left the damning). It's all fair enough, really, I guess, mebbe, but it's still disappointing.
EDIT: Uh, yeah. Need to find a writing routine. Keep writing in mini-bursts and I want to try and build up a catalogue of things to send out. My time management, unfortunately, is woeful.
So, yeah... cover art released. Comes out on the 1st. My story will be available for free on their site at some point in the next two months, or you can buy it and get it in the first.
Or you can just say "Yay tiger you're so best. Keep believing!" even if you just do so to yourself in your head and I'll be happy.
