Yeah... I'd like to make room for my 2600 and 7800 in that setup and I probably could if I started de-duping.  :)

Latest acquisition for my boxed and complete Atari collection.

I only intend to have a handful of these - being my very favourite games. So I doubt I will get into double figures with these.  These are the US versions to "play" on my US machine modded for composite.

I say play - I'll be using a ROM cart to play them - these will remain largely untouched on the shelf. Love the Cliff Spohn artwork.

  • I want to see your Atari in that room set up asap.

Get rid of some unnecessary duplicates ;-)

  • So there's an R-type Final 2 coming out on the current consoles.

Probably more interesting to those in here than elsewhere.

Hey, I'm gonna need some help around the new crt we got. It was a 60/50 hrs hybrid by the work on the back, but it isn't running JP stuff except in black and white.

Any early advice is accepted but I'll post the make and model this weekend

Having a b&w signal with NTSC sources is quite common with some European TVs.

Your best chance here is to be using RGB SCART. Even with that, you need to make sure you are using AV1 if you have more than one SCART input. Usually AV2 is composite only and with some TVs that won't work with NTSC.

Also - check for s-video mode. Some Tvs have an s-video switch beside the SCART socket on the TV - try that in both positions. Or - if you can get into the TV's on-screen menu there might be PAL/NTSC/Auto settings.

Btw, where did you get that unit you got your consoles in mate? I'd like something like that myself so I can set up more consoles.

  • I think is just the newer (still about 6 years old) design for the IKEA kallax.

The inner divider used to he as thick as the outer walls. There was a whole drama in the vinyl collector/dj scene just before it came out.
  • Yeah it looks like the Kallax. I use it in my set up too.

They have made separators too now so you can split the voids in two to save a bit of space.

Yup..Ikea.  I've a notion to get some separators to get a couple more consoles in such as my old Ataris..

However, comically the PS5 won't fit in one of the shelves.

  • I ended up putting my bigger more modern consoles on top which also helps with cooling. I also tacked some white veneer hard board to the back with little core drilled circles to hide the wires.

Yeah - have sort of been following that at shmups.com

Kind of a misnomer though - "Final" and "2"...

I've been getting into Nights into Dreams on the trusty old Saturn. Definitely a game rewards repeat play. I've picked one level to really go at as a score attack thing and it's rewarding getting better scores. I'm competing with a couple of lads over at the saturnuk forum which always helps

But when you are just shy of 200K and you find a YT video of the same level with a score 1.2m you see how far you have to go. Speaks quite a bit for the game really.

It wasn't a game I really got into when Saturn was current and always wondered what the fuss was about. The walking about is horrific but really if you end up walking you have failed the level and would be better off resetting.

It's really about rinsing courses until you know them in your sleep and then getting that execution down pat. You have to end the level just as the timer runs out to get the best score - the whole game is one big risk/reward trade off.

  • It's a shame there weren't more courses where complete links were possible. Splash Garden 1 and the first ice stage had complete links you could keep going while the timer lasted iirc. Very good game, the evolving soundtrack is particularly impressive and the bosses are excellent.

Having a clear out and decided I should probably give up on getting my Nuon DVD player modded to play games (the controller ports are missing even though the motherboard has the connection for them. I have a controller sealed in the box. It seems they are going for between £200 and £400....

Double checked I was looking at sold listings. Yep.  I still have the DVD player too.  Don't have Tempest 3000 - £700. Fucking madness.

Aye. Tempest 3000 was really the only game worth playing on it as the rest was derivative filler.

Have always been a Tempest fanboy. When I got my Asteroids Deluxe cabinet I agonised between choosing it and Tempest. Tempest 2000 is a great update. I'll be contenting myself with the Saturn version of it. :)   Tempest X3 on PS1 is nice too. :)

Having a mini clearout - might interest some JP-Saturn collectors..

PM me if interested. Dezaemon 2 is about £35 on average going by eBay. The other 2 are under a tenner each. Can of course do a B&B deal.

Stakes Winner 2 - arcadey race horse game with an additional RPG-style mode that is impenetrable to non JP readers
    sDCQxXY.jpg

Dezaemon 2 - build your own shmup kit with a handful of pre-built games.
    Jna9dVy.jpg

Body Special 264 Jigsaw Puzzle (only with short looping video clips) of presentable young ladies in beachwear peeping out from cherry blossom trees etc.  This comes with the spine card which matters to some collectors.

    Also this cheapo collection

Aquazone is an aquarium simulator (!)

Super Casino Special - gambling/casino sim with support for 4 players

Shanghai Triple Threat - tile matching game. This is in the wrong game case!  Was how it was sold to me. It's actually a nice game - but I already own it.

Super Robot Wars Final F - unfathomable Japanese tactical battle game that looks rather good but is all in Japanese. It comes in a non standard jewel case with a big fat manual.

    Will do a deal all 4 - £10. Or £3 each.

Few others bits and pieces going cheap these are all PAL:

Tiger Woods 2010 Wii (was the 1st motionplus Golf game)

Flipnic PS2 - pinball type game with multi-screen tables
Fruit Machine Mania PS2 - Uk style fruit machine sim - you have to build credits up to unlock machines. Nudge features and all that gubbins.

Cleopatra Fortune PS1  - rather nice shape fitting puzzle game. Arcade port with one or two extra modes. Nice but I have it as part of a retro compilation now.

These are all dirt cheap - make me an offer if you fancy any of them. They are all complete and in good condition if you are collecting.

Have taken a punt on that Nuon controller on eBay with a starting bid of £200 and a BiN or £300. Keeping to UK only first and see what happens.

  • Had a weird problem with my Saturn. Replaced the Action Replay with a recently purchased memory card that showed up correctly in the memory manager. Thought about starting Shining the Holy Ark and Saturn got stuck in the CD player screen saying "checking disc format". Disc looked fine but tried Worms and same thing. Changed the region to NTSC-J and tried Parodius, same thing. At this point I was seriously worried that the laser on this 50/60Hz modded region free Saturn was dead. Last punt and put the Action Replay back in and both Parodius and Worms booted up normally.

Really weird, I have a stock Action Replay without any modifications that was in the slot because my other memory card had died and I backed up the saves to AR. No idea how it could affect the booting of games.

A stock action replay will make an unmodded console region free. Maybe the region free mod isn't working properly?

How is the region change done on the console? Is it one those newer switchless ones?
