Aye Costa I feel just wasn't in the zone at all. Its like he thought he was in a fight and adding fuel to his own spectacular finish by doing his taunts and stuff, not realising the whole goddamn entire time, Izzy is making reads off everything. Izzy took him into the matrix and left him in a heap on the floor so he could breakdance. Just.... Wow.
And yup, Big Jan The Man. Once I saw that rib kick land flush in the first I thought nahhh Dom don't want this. He was picked apart, amazing performance from Jan.
I reckon Dub tonight. Unless he blows himself out before hurting Joyce, 'cause then I pick Joyce. Unless it's all going his way after weathering an early storm and he walks onto a shot. What a prediction! Good fight on paper, I've been looking forward to it.
Agree. It's pretty level but Dubois punching himself out early in the round with Joyce jabbing his way through the rest of the round is pretty much becoming a pattern of the fight.
Just an absolute masterclass from Max Holloway on Saturday night. Most significant strikes landed in a round, in a fight, and most total strikes thrown in a fight, ever.
I had him down as maybe getting some handiwork from yer man Kattar who can stand with anyone, but no, Max decided fuck that I'm the best, and done this.
Unreal. I've seen plenty no look passes in my time but never a no look crack to the head and dodge two or three, all the while shouting "I'M THE BEST BOXER IN THE UFC!" at the commentary booth. Matrix stuff.
Was a fantastic fight hey? The early start time threw me off but luckily still got to see this fight. Max putting on a show and Kattar just refusing to quit. Didn't realise how much I'd missed the crowd either.
Sounds like Volk will fight Ortega next and I guess Max gets the winner? I'm an Aussie so would love to see Volk keep winning but beating Ortega and going 3-0 against Max seems... unlikely.
When you got movies like Tom Cruise in them, you can't lose
Totally different game! Defence is easier with boxing gloves, but you lose a chunk of power, they tire you faster, and gaps are harder to find.
There's a lot more upperbody movement*, since you don't face as many angles of danger to draw opponents. Backing up in straight lines like Holloway is no good in an 18ft ring. But it's true that while the best boxers in UFC might be two-thirds as good, the best boxers are nowhere near as good at the rest of it.
*See how Povetkin landed his uppercut by baiting a righthand counter. He conditioned Whyte to try and counter his jab and then telegraphed one. Had Whyte not turned himself square with his failed lefthook (blocking a left to his body that never came), Pov moving his lead foot would've helped him thread his uppercut through a loose guard. Whyte'll have seen he should've gone into a southpaw guard. 2:15
I'm 100% more hype for Rose v zhang and valentina v andrade than I am Usman v Masvidal. The women's title fights, imo, have potential to be all timers.
Should be a banging card. Tristan Connelly on there too, big fan of his after his debut.
I don't see any titles changing hands to be honest but anything can happen in MMA as it has time and time again. They should all be interesting fights though.
