This game is really fucking amazing. I've been playing since 4pm and been mostly fluffing about the main town doing some great little side quests. It's so fucking dense and rich with atmosphere. I love that there's multiple routes to places and it's very easy to get lost and wind up in trouble. I've died lots out there there's some real nasty beasties. I'm really loving the tone of the game.
Started as an archer and then went sword and board. I think this might be the best hack and slash gameplay ever devised. There's some hilarious emergent events that can kick off. Had a bunch of orcs try to storm the town earlier - they came barging into the boozer and everyone got involved and trounced them. I didn't think enemies could come into towns lol.
The devs said they all can, including the big buggers. A griffon flew silently over our heads today, only the shadow giving it away. My arse nipped a little but it wasn't interested
I'm absolutely loving the archer gameplay. I wasn't sure about auto aim at first, but it makes for some great free flowing action. I usually like to perch up high somewhere and rain arrows down using my special skills, but if I attract too much attention it's great to jump off a cliff and still land an arrow as you relocate.
I smacked one of the bigger goblins off a small cliff, but the damage from the arrow and fall wasn't enough to kill him, and he's now out of sight. Normally you'd be left frustrated waiting for them to come back out for another taste of arrowhead, but here I was able to sprint and jump off the cliff, right over him as he lay on the deck and fire an arrow into him from above before I landed. It felt incredible, it really is Legolas the Game, nothing has come as close to getting a bow boy right as this.
I'm not even going to describe the time I dropped to one knee to use my power arrow skill just as an ogre was leaping at me with a drop kick only to sail over my head and into a river to be taken by the brine. But I may post the video if I can be arsed uploading it
Well this ain't bad is it. In 3 hours this morning, I've...
1. Cleared out a mine full of goblins
2. Saved a village from lizard men
3. Fought a cyclops
4. Fought a big hairy thing that nearly kicked my ass
5. Discovered a crypt with a sorcerer skeleton inside that killed my whole party, I just about managed to crawl out of range of it's spells, pop a stamina potion, run back and finish it off
6. Unlocked the Sorcerer and Warrior classes
7. Hire and fire a bunch of pawns and level up my character and main pawn to 13.
8. Enhance a bunch of gear, though my range is currently letting it all hang out with his butt on show.
I too am enjoying this immensely, although that statement does come with some caveats:
It's not really an open Open World game is it? Your party essentially only gets to travel across the map along agreed 'corridors', funneled down paths barred on either side by rocky ravines or impenetrable woodland. You can't exactly free roam in this game (that's point the compass North and see how far you can walk) so to call it an open world game is somewhat of a misnomer.
Having said that, the sense of being 'out in the wilds' is great, and the underground cave networks are some of the best I've ever seen in an RPG.
The lack of horses is completely jarring - yes I know the original didn't have them either, but when a Knight offers to escort you to the capital and you all end up jogging there along the road, it's all a little bit Benny Hill.
And I wish it was a little bit clearer why my health bar is missing chunks that I can't replenish? I know if you take a few hits in a battle there are some wounds that your health potions can't heal ( need to sleep in an or Inn or set up camp in the wilds to fully heal), but some more info on the Status tab for your character's unregenerative wounds would give greater clarity.
Anyway I'll do my best to try and not play it till 1.00am this morning....
It wasn't until I hit my thirties that I realised you could unlock rewards by exploring the map
Isn’t the health thing based on how hard you get hit? I got absolutely hammered by a big beastie and he took my max health down to about half the bar until I found a campfire.
I think it's just an accumulative percentage. Get a few scratches from a load of easy fights and they'll start to add up. Get drop kicked by an ogre and it'll take a big chunk out. I think it just reflects fatigue in your guy, not specific injuries or damage sustained. A good kip sorts it out
I had a pawn from someone from here last night, dunno who. It was Zangief as a warrior dwarf, who smashed absolutely every box or barrel he could see with a huge two handed sword. He was great
Hahaha, I love the pawns that are keen collectors, I'm not sure how to imbue my pawn with that particular characteristic. I'm also not sure how mine also ended up with a hackneyed hockney accent.
That's my little Gief, he's a good egg. Had your guy with me for a while, Paul, he liked killing people by throwing them into walls, you should be proud.
Solid day on this. The game is so dense with quests and hidden little corners with stuff everywhere. 10 hours contains so much content. Travelling by cart seems like a death wish. Over 5 trips, 4 were attacked, with the last one by both an Ogre and a Minotaur at the same time.
And post combat I like the…
Spoiler:
Little hand slap you do with your pawns. Nice touch.
Ha ha. The upgraded shield bash might be the best move in any fighting game ever made. So fucking satisfying. Whenever I'm near water I just yeet the fuckers straight in the brine. I'm consistently surprised how cheeky you can be with that move. Failing that I just pick em up and throw em in lol.
Do you need psplus to see other badgers pawns coz all I've seen is stock capcom jobs!? Also I don't actually think I've got any friends on playstation I suppose I should get adding...
Also, just had a look at the MS store offerings. Nothing offensively overpriced in there. For the people who complain about no fast travel, obviously didn't find the oxcarts. They only cost 100g as well, which is a pittance, and get you to the other side of the map in a jiffy
