  • Managed to acquire All Out this morning so watching it now. So far, very good, except for Bucks v Lucha Bros. Anything that involves tacks, barbed wire, or broken glass can fuck off for me. Also, just hate the Bucks in general. Just high spot after high spot with no reasoning for them other than "Get your shit in."

  • Add fire to that list too.
  • Still slowly watching All Out and it's some fucking bullshit
    Spoiler:
    .

Had to take a break after the Bucks/Lucha Bros cage match as I was just spent. The next match was the Casino BR and there was still about 2 hrs to go and just had to turn it off for a bit. 4hr ppvs are a lot.

That first hour and a half was excellent though, I was popping my bloody socks off.

    some random thoughts -
Holy crap Miro's chest. Eddie Kingston chopped the shit out of it.
I'm really enjoying Jon Moxley slowly working his way through lots of old Japanese men. Had not really heard of Minoru Suzuki but it was really fun when he came out the "Forbiddon Door". The crowd really sold it to me.
I liked Kris Statlanders attempted flippy do da that led that she missed and led to her losing. That was a nice sequence.
Do not like top rope canadian destroyers. That can't be safe.
    Ray Fenix is the best.
Casino BR continues to be a load of old shite. Just steal the Royal Rumble format. It's fine.
The Fozzy guitar man entrance for Jericho had too much auld da energy
  • Re: Top tope Canadian destroyer - defo an unecessary risk but I cant help feel it is safer than the regular one because the have room to drop? Never been a fan of the move although it is impressive to see it done.

  • Just finished the Punk match.

About as good as can be expected from him. Fairly slow paced, and lots of rest holds/spots.

The problem being, unless he starts wrestling several times a week again, he won't get in to the shape needed for fast paced matches.

He'll be like when Rock came back for once off matches (which is something he complained about) and will be a CM Punk tribute act.

Glad he didn't go for the elbow drop either. His never looked good, and he doesn't need to be coming off the top rope.

His selling, and working of a crowd is still top notch though.
  • Just finished and holy shit. I can't believe how happy that ending made me, I think I was actually cackling at one point.

    Wrestling really is the best.
  • Aye, it sounds amazing, and I was gutted not to see it, still, Simon Miller's review made up for missing it...  *spoiler in the thumbnail

Come with g if you want to live...
  • So that was a decent show. I was disappointed with the Punk match. I don't know what I expected, but it wasnt that. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad. But I just wanted... Something more?

Christian - Omega on the other hand, delivered in spades.
  • I think Punk/Allin was great fun, and boy did the crowd love it!
Was it the greatest match evarr? No. But it's great solid stuff, tells it's story well, and when all is said and done, Punk does a great job of putting Allin over, and let's face it, that's why he's back, to give the new generation a leg up, so fair play to him.

Um, what is the best wrestling company these days, for quality of output? I assume WWE has competition and then some.

For me it’s Stardom and New Japan. Though in terms of being competitive to WWE it’s AEW. I personally can’t stand WWE, every match has the same style, the same rest holds, and their booking and storylines are the absolute pits.

I though the PPV was very good but not great. I enjoyed the opening 2 matches a lot, loved the cage match and thought the main was v good. Darby Punk was fine, battle royal was terrible. I like kris statlander a lot, I think Britt is pretty poor but has a compelling personality. The fucking ending though, compelling stuff. Oh yeah, and Minoru fucking Suzuki!
  • Sorry for the double post but a few more things. What I loved about the cage match and what AEW usually do when there is a spectacular spot, it was the setup for the finish. I hate it when someone dives off a cage and it leads to utterly nothing.

I also rolled my eyes at the Jericho v MJF restart, BUT the crowd were so into it after this, I can't really fault it.

Punk Darby ended up beign very good but was ropey for a good portion of the first 10 minutes.

FFS TOny just buy Final Countdown, Danielson's new music sounded shite.

I think their PPV's are too long. They've never had an absolute banger since the first double or nothing and I think it's due to fatigue, but this was still very good.
  • Holy shit though. What a closer...

  • This stuff is always really interesting:

  • This is great stuff after they went off air...

Come with g if you want to live...
  • I'd imagine that was amazing to see live (even on TV as it was happening)

I've watched a few of the matches. I think Punks match was quite good but as said I dont expect as much out of him as some fans. He was decent and age has taken a bit but I think he can be like Roberts in his heyday - less movement, all about the crowd work.

Cage v Omega was very good, I though t Jericho vs MJF was ok but I think they've missed a trick by having MJF not be the guy to end Jerichos career (in storyline) to give Jericho some time away and build him up further.

The Bucks match has been getting rave reviews and maybe I expected way too much but it really was a load of spots. The lack of selling from the Bucks is so obvious until the final five minutes. Too many of the spots look too staged for me (but that is a lucha issue in general) Not keen on it but cant argue that what they can do is very impressive. Just not how I like my wrasslin'.

  • That's what annoys me most about the Bucks, they are very talented, and they have charisma, but it's the complete lack of proper selling.

People have been using super kicks as big moves for decades (arguably the GOAT used one as a finisher), but they treat them as nothing.

I'm okay with false finishes, but when half of your match could be a finish, it just leaves me disinterested.

Same as Cody no selling a Canadian Destroyer a few months ago.

Contrast that with Punk and Allin.

The GTS was portrayed as a match ender.

Allin constantly tried to escape it, and the first time it was hit, he fell through the ropes, which IIRC led to a 9 count. Second time, match was over.
  • Yeah, any Bucks match is Indyriffic.
  • Very entertaining though

Debatable. It's a showy 10 minute guitar solo in a 3 minute song. Sure, you appreciate the ability but it sure gets old quickly.

  • You certainly don't feel that you're near the end for the first 35 finishers.
  • You can get away with more false finishes in tag matches because pins can be broken, but they'll do a huge spot, and with no pin attempt, another huge spot within a minute.

Just finished All Out. Big Show was limping before even getting in the ring. Complete waste of a spot on the card.

Main event was good, and the afters was great.

The pop for Adam Cole was huge, and the crowd interaction for "Adam Cole Bay Bay" was great.

Wish they would have got Final Countdown for Danielson. Wonder if he'll start going by American Dragon again? Noticeably didn't do any Yes! chants himself. Might be something WWE own.

One of Shawn Michaels most important (and illustrative that he got it) moves, imo, was him doing the summersault into the turnbuckle after he was whipped into the corner.

Netflix Is Releasing An Interactive Film With WWE’s The Undertaker

    ...Yeah alright I'll watch that.

    I'm a Bucks fan btw.
When you got movies like Tom Cruise in them, you can't lose
  • I rate WWE for transitioning into at times a decent womens division the roster is pretty strong at times even if the matchups and tag stuff is often a mess. Becky and Flair are great and Asuka/Blair and Banks (or a fit Bailey) hold some depth. I don't see that in the other promotions.

Also I think WWE does diversity pretty well. I mean ethnic diversity. They've had a number of high profile non white champions over the last couple of years.
He could've just said they came from another planet but seems keen to convince people with his bullshit pseudoscience that he knows stuff. I wouldn't trust him with my lunch. - SG
  • Brilliant promo from AEW...

Come with g if you want to live...
  • much of the AEW I watch is the YouTube clips. They do a great job of keeping it fresh and engaging. I can't make it through dynamite but that's more to it being the default 2 hour wrestling show format.

That was great. It's hard not to root for Ruby Soho after watching that. I'd actually missed her hugging the ref after winnning and it's just lovely to see.
  • Aye, her segment was lovely.

  • I've been saying for years someone should leave WWE for a company like AEW and just praise WWE, Vince, HHH, and Stephanie.

They'd be boo'd out of the building, unless they're Ric Flair of course!
