Can't we all just get along?!? MD vs SNES

The Sonic games shit on, say, Super Mario World from an audio-visual perspective.

Graphics, dunno. Audio? Not a chance. Taste in music or tunes aside, the Sonic games sound quality isn't as good as SMW.

Trying to buy Demon's Crest on SNES too. Why so bloody expensive?!

He's reiterating the point that the actual music is better, and pointing out that even though the MD's sound chip may not have been as good as the SNES's, that doesn't make the 'music' worse in comparison.

  • The music in Sonic is absolutely superb. Mario is good too, but it rarely hits the heights that Sonic's does.

....and there was the fly swatting game!

I think the SNES got the first Dezaemon game - the shmup construction kit - not sure how good it was though.

SNES also had Cameltry aka On The Ball - compatible with the SNES mouse..

Out to Lunch was another nice SNES game the MD didn't have.

I think it was the best 'console war', as it was the most evenly balanced.

I think we can all agree that the Dreamcast won the Ps2 / GameCube war even though it didn't. But it did.

While I could recognise a tune from Sonic I couldn't hum it off the top of my head. Nowhere near the same level.

Hmmm, I don't quite agree. The SNES was the clear winner, whereas I would struggle to pick the overall best console in later generations. The current gen is the most evenly balanced, I would say.

  • Megadrive had great ninja hack n slash games in Strider and Shinobi. The only similar Snes game was Kabuki and that was on Md too iirc. Road Rash was great, gory fun too.

The MD Cpu was much faster than the Snes one, so it was better suited to schmups and intense action games, where the Snes would be more prone to bouts of slowdown and flickering.

In terms of sales and exclusives.

Both machines were evenly matched, as this thread has proved.

  • Robocop Vs Terminator gets a special mention for being different on both machines yet pants on SNES *

Sword of Vermillion has been mentioned and I also loved it as a kid, but I think it's aged worse than any other game mentioned in this thread.  The boss battles are abysmal now.

El Viento needs more love.  Star Control in two player. General Chaos.  Mercs.  Toejam and Earl has rightly been mentioned, but the sequel was better for me.  Twinkle Tale.  Shinobi III.  Not even close to scraping the barrel yet.

    * The word 'pants' can still be used for this particular discussion.

SNES also had Hagane - worth a look - but yeah - MD was best at those

I'd give the SNES the nod for platformers, RPGs and puzzle games.

Close re trad shmups - though MD might shave that.

MD got the better deal from EA re sports - though the SNES did have a couple of crackers like Super Tennis and ISS Deluxe - but MD would take that category.

I'd say that the SNES would win the wildcard/misc. category though.

    4-3 to the SNES.

    What about racing?

    MD takes Micro Machines

    SNES has F-Zero

    MD has Ayerton Senna
    SNES has Human Grand Prix

SNES has Unirally and Mario Kart though
